Assignment No. 5(Coordinate Geometry Subjective)
1. Plot the following points and check whether they are collinear or not:
(i) (1, 3), (– 1, – 1), (– 2, – 3) (ii) (1, 1), (2, – 3), (– 1, – 2)
(iii) (0, 0), (2, 2), (5, 5)
2. Write the coordinates of the vertices of a rectangle whose length and breadth are 5 and 3
units respectively, one vertex is at the origin, the longer side lies on the x-
axis, and one of the vertices lies in the third quadrant.
3. Plot the following points and write the name of the figure obtained by joining them
in order: P (– 3, 2), Q (– 7, – 3), R (6, – 3), S (2, 2)
4. Find the value of x and y if two ordered pairs (x - 3, -6) and (4, x + y) are equal.
5. In which quadrant or on which axis does each of the following points lies?
(–3, 5), (4, –1), (2, 0), (2, 2), (–3, –6)
7. Points A (5, 3), B (–2, 3), and D (5, –4) are three vertices of a square ABCD. Plot
these points on a graph paper and hence find the coordinates of the vertex C.
8. On a graph paper, plot the points A (2, 3), B (5, 0) and C (0, 5). If those points are collinear
then draw the line which includes them. Write the co-ordinates of the points at which the line
intersects the X-axis and the Y-axis.
9. Draw the quadrilateral with vertices (4, 3), (-4, 3), (-4, -3), (4, -3). Name the type of
quadrilateral. Draw its diagonals and write the coordinates of the point where the diagonals
intersects each other.
10. From the given figure, write
(a) the coordinates of the points B and F. (b) the point identified by the coordinates (1, 1)
(c) the abscissa of the points D and H. (d) the ordinates of the points A and C.
(e) the quadrant in which points B and I lie.
(f) the perpendicular distance of the point G from the x-axis.
(g) the perpendicular distance of the point I from the y-axis.
(h) the point whose perpendicular distance from y-axis is 2 units.
