Farmer Joe had a busy morning at the Sunday


market.

1. Farmer Joe had 35 customers for the whole


morning. He knew 20 of them. How many new
customers did he meet today?

2. Farmer Joe brought 24 tomatoes and 28 carrots


to the market. He sold 17 tomatoes. How many
tomatoes were left?

3. He brought 15 eggs but 4 of them were broken


on the way to the market. He then sold 6 eggs at
the market. How many eggs were left?

4. He brought with him 44 leaflets introducing his
farm and he gave one leaflet to each of his
customers. How many leaflets were left?

5. Farmer Joe brought with him 30 cabbages and


sold 14 of them. But they are too heavy to bring
back to his farm. So, he gave 8 away to his friend
Granny May. How many cabbages did he have
left?

6. Write the subtraction sentence that fits this: “He


took 26 crates of produce to sell at the market.
He sold 20 crates and gave away 2 crates.
Therefore, at the end of the morning, he only had
4 crates of produce to bring back.”
