2. V~ことにきめる
To decide on…
Note: Both ことにする and ことにきめる mean to decide, and usage is almost identical. However, ことにする is
more idiomatic, and so commonly used in colloquial speech. ことにきめる is suitable for more formal
speech, or for more important decisions.
Another difference is that the usage of ことにする to mean 'I hereby decide to do' is not possible with 決
める.
3. V~て+は だめ
Not allowed…, should not…
4. V~たらいい
It would be nice if..., should, hope
Verb (plain) + と いい
Verb (た form) + ら
5. V~たらいい(ですか)
What should I do? (Speaker seeking instruction from listener)
Verb (た form) + らいいですか
6. V~たらどう
Why don’t you…?
Verb (た form) + らどうですか
7. N のほかに + V ない
Except for….
No other, nothing else
N のほかに + V ない
E.g. 週末は宿題がたくさんあったので、勉強の他(に)は何もできなかった 。
Because I had lots of homework on the weekend, I could do anything else except for study
