IBM CE Projects: One Note

For every 3rd or 4th year engineering student, projects are extremely important. It is through projects that an engineer is able to exhibit his/her technical knowledge that he has acquired during his engineering years. A project showcases an engineers creativity, hard work, technical expertise, team work; which is tested during his campus interview. NIIT has joined hands with IBM to bring out a product that will solve all the project related problems of an engineering student. The projects are a blend of NIITs unique training methodology along with IBMs Project development expertise thus giving a student the best of both worlds. Why IBM? 1. IBM is the market leader and the only recognized player in the project training domain 2. The Live Projects are developed in IBMs own software development labs by IBMs very own domain experts thus giving students exposure to industry relevant projects 3. The students get an exposure to all the phases of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) as compared to the grey market whereas the grey market restricts the exposure to development phase only 4. The Live Project gets evaluated by IBM experts upon completion 5. A student gets IBM certification upon successful completion of the project Why NIIT? Although IBM projects can be taken up by students in the open market, the reasons why a student should enroll with NIIT are as follows: 1. The Students would work on the project under a mentored environment, ensuring that all technical concepts are learnt properly before the student starts working on the project 2. The program duration has been modified keeping in mind the requirements and capabilities of the students and ensure effective assimilation of concepts 3. A 3 level evaluation process to ensure successful completion of the project and increasing the chances of the student getting the project completion certificate from IBM. The first two level of evaluation would be done by NIIT mentors themselves with a 70% weightage in the total score. 4. The students will get IBM courseware and trained by certified faculties 5. Access to NIITs world class services and infrastructure for more hands on experience, also they would be trained on licensed IBM software tools

Program Positioning (Things to Remember) 1. Since the IBM projects are Java Based, therefore the first and foremost thing that needs to be checked is the students comfort with Java as a programming language, Core Java and JSP/Servlets concepts followed by RDBMS concepts. He needs to know at least one database 2. For this the student either should show you some certificates proving that he has the knowledge or a technical round with the faculty would help you decide the same. 3. If the student fulfills the any of the above criterion, position IBM CE projects, if not, the Platinum projects program should be positioned. Please Note 1. Both programs would first start with a bridge module in which the student would be trained on important IBM tools which would enable him to work on the project. 2. The bridge module includes SDLC/DB2 (IBM Database), Rational Software Architect (IBM tool that helps in designing a software) and Rational Application Developer Web sphere (IBM tool that helps in developing RAD applications) 3. The students would do their projects in groups of 3 in complete MR

Failure to do so he will get a transcript which would contain section wise details of project evaluation 5. Upon enrolment for the program the student can get a letter from NIIT with NIIT and IBM logo on it mentioning the name of the project he has enrolled for, which he can submit to his college HOD 6. In the Platinum program the student would get a graded certificate from NIIT on Java and Oracle 7. The Java content in this module is not the same as CJEV4 or DJVTV3, however does cover all the necessary elements required for the student to work on the project further on 8. The students would have to submit their projects by February since the evaluation is scheduled in March. Therefore November is the right time for the student to enroll for the project to get over on time 9. In case of the platinum projects program, NIIT would conduct fast track batches to ensure the program along with the project gets over by February. (centers to ensure the fast track batches are launched in case of platinum program) Certificate of Completion from IBM
