Hey kids, have you ever seen a mouse around your home?

They are small in size, have a tail,


and can run fast!

But today, we're not talking about those speedy mice.

Just like you might have seen a mouse roaming around your home, your computer

also has a special friend called a MOUSE! This computer mouse may not be

furry, but it's just as helpful. It lets you control what happens on the computer

screen by giving instructions to your computer. It is one of the input device that

you learned about in the previous class. In this session, you will learn more!
Meet Your Computer's Mini-Me Mouse!

The computer mouse helps you find things and play games on the computer!

It is an input device. It has two buttons


on it. It may have a tail which is attached
to the CPU. Some can be wireless too. It
is kept on the mouse pad.

Parts of a Mouse

A mouse has different parts,

• The button on the left side is called the left button.

• The button on the right side is called the right button.

• The pad on which we move the mouse is known as the mouse pad.

• It also has a scroll wheel to move up and down on the screen.

Mouse Pointer

The mouse pointer is a slant arrow on the computer screen. When you move the

mouse, this arrow moves on the screen in the same direction.

• Place the mouse on a flat surface like a mouse pad or table.


• Place your hand on the mouse and hold it with your thumb and last two

fingers.

• Place your index finger for the left button and your middle finger for

the right button.

• Move the mouse by sliding it with your hand.

• The arrow on the screen moves as you move the mouse.

Functions of a Mouse

A mouse helps you in playing games, drawing pictures, selecting items on the

screen, etc.

1. Clicking

When using a camera to capture a picture, have you ever

noticed the distinct 'click' sound it produces?

Similarly, when you press and release any button on a computer

mouse, it also generates a sound. This action of pressing and releasing mouse

buttons is commonly referred to as 'clicking.’

Left Click

This is the most common type of mouse click. Pressing the left mouse button

once and releasing it immediately is called left clicking.

Double clicking

Pressing the left mouse button twice without stopping and releasing quickly is

called double clicking.

Right-clicking

Pressing and releasing the right mouse button once shows a list of commands on

the monitor. It is called right-clicking.

2. Dragging

Dragging is a way to move an object on the computer screen.


For example:

• Place the mouse pointer on the image.

• Press the left mouse button and keep holding it while you drag the image

to the desired location.

• Once you place the image where you want it, lift your finger from the left

mouse button.

2. Scrolling

The scroll button is used to move up and down a page. The action of moving up

and down a page is called scrolling.
