ELABORATE We are surrounded with thousands of waves.

G. Finding practical applications of Waves collide with our bodies and some pass through
concepts and skills in daily living us. Most of these waves are invisible but we can perceive
H. Making generalizations and some. The warmth of the sun and the light that we see
abstractions about the lesson are just a few of them. These waves share similar traits,
yet, they are unique in some ways. These waves are
called Electromagnetic waves.
An electromagnetic wave in a vacuum consists
of mutually perpendicular and oscillating electric and
magnetic fields. The wave is a transverse wave, since the
fields are perpendicular to the direction in which the
wave travels. All electromagnetic waves, regardless of
their frequency, travel through a vacuum at the same
speed, the speed of light c (c = 3.00 x 10 8m/s).
Electromagnetic waves are a form of travelling electrical
and magnetic transverse wave that have common properties. Such as:
a.) Electromagnetic waves do not need a medium because they can travel
through a
vacuum.
b.) They exhibit reflection, refraction, diffraction and interference.
c.) Obey the wave relation ( v = fλ ).
d.) They carry energy as well as information
e.) They can be polarized
EVALUATE MULTIPLE CHOICE

the speed decreases what will be its frequency?
A. also decreases C. may increase or decrease
B. also increases D. remains same
2. What is the speed of electromagnetic waves in vacuum?
A. 3.0 x 108 m s-1 C.6.0 x 108 m s-1
B. 4 x 108 m s-1 D. 30 x 108 m s-1
3. What happen to the speed of electromagnetic waves when the medium
changes from air to water?
A. decreases C. may increase or decrease
B. increases D. remains same
4. Electromagnetic waves are what type of wave?
A. latitudinal waves C. reversal waves
B. longitudinal waves D. transverse waves
5. Which one of the following electromagnetic waves have the longest
wavelength?
A. infrared B. gamma rays C. radio waves D. ultraviolet
