used. [2]

dioxide in the medium.

• Suji and daliya should be dry roasted before storing
• Spices should be stored in dry, air tight containers to retain their flavour
for a long time
• Ghee, oil should be stored in air tight containers because exposure to air
and moisture can make them rancid.

Question 6
(i) Explain the characteristics of emotional development. [5]
Emotional development in upper middle childhood (approximately ages 8-12) is
a crucial period where children begin to refine their understanding and
management of emotions. The five key characteristics of emotional development
during this stage:
1. Improved Emotional Regulation
Children in upper middle childhood start developing better control over their
emotions. They learn strategies to manage feelings of anger, frustration, and
sadness, and can express their emotions more appropriately in different social
contexts.
2. Increased Empathy and Perspective-Taking
During this period, children become more capable of understanding others'
emotions and viewpoints. They can empathize with peers and adults, recognizing
that different people may have different feelings and reactions to the same
situation.
3. Development of Self-Esteem
Self-esteem becomes more stable and is influenced by a broader range of factors,
including peer relationships, academic performance, and social comparisons.
Children start forming a more consistent self-image and are more sensitive to
feedback from others.
4. Greater Social Awareness
Children develop an understanding of social norms and expectations. They
become more attuned to how their actions affect others and may begin to modify
their behavior to fit in with peer groups or gain social acceptance.
5. Understanding of Complex Emotions
At this stage, children start to recognize and experience more complex emotions,
such as pride, guilt, shame, and jealousy. They understand that it is possible to
feel mixed emotions simultaneously and can articulate these feelings more
clearly.
(ii)Explain the factors governing suitability of fabrics. [5]
• Age and Gender:
Men prefer neutral or pastel colours, women prefer delicate patterns and
youngsters may choose soft and light colours
• Occupation: differentiates people of particular professions from their
clothes .For example doctors, policemen etc
• Season: summer- light and cool colours, monsoon – synthetic fibres, thick
and knitted fabric like woollens for winter
• Occasion: daily wear- cotton, terry cot, sports and picnic- casual fabric silk
materials like hosiery with light colours and minimal design for night
wears
• Fashion: experiment according to their personality
• Budget: reasonable price for good quality

(iii) Explain any two ecological problems that our country is facing. [5]
I] Deforestation is a significant ecological problem in many countries around
the world. It involves the large-scale removal of forests, often for agricultural
expansion, logging, or infrastructure development.
Consequences:
Loss of Biodiversity: Deforestation results in the destruction of habitats for
numerous plant and animal species, leading to a decline in biodiversity.
Climate Change: Forests act as carbon sinks, absorbing and storing carbon
dioxide. The removal of trees contributes to increased greenhouse gas levels,
exacerbating climate change.
Disruption of Water Cycles: Forests play a crucial role in regulating water
cycles. Deforestation can lead to altered rainfall patterns, soil erosion, and
disrupted water supplies.
Pollution:

II] Pollution, in various forms, poses a significant ecological challenge globally.

This includes air pollution, water pollution, and soil contamination.
Consequences:
Health Impact: Pollution has detrimental effects on human health, causing
respiratory diseases, waterborne illnesses, and other health issues.
Ecosystem Degradation: Pollutants can harm ecosystems, leading to the decline
of plant and animal species. Water pollution, for example, can result in the
death of aquatic life and the disruption of aquatic ecosystems.
Climate Change: Certain pollutants contribute to climate change. For instance,
emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, contribute
to global warming.

Question 7
