RESPONSE
1 Check the patient's surroundings for safety.
2 Check the response - shakes shoulders gently and
asks “are you ok”.
3 Call for help, if no response.
II CHECK FOR SIGNS OF LIFE 1
4 Position patient on back and looks, listens and
feels for signs of breathing for 10 seconds.
5 Assess for a carotid pulse for 10 seconds.
III POSITIONS FOR CPR 1
6 Position with hands on chest
7 Place the heels of one hand on chest
8 Fingers interlocked
9 Locked elbows
IV COMMENCE CPR 2
10 Provide chest compressions
11 Open airway (hand tilt & chin lift and jaw thrust).
12 Provide and rescue breathing

Reassess the victim.
