A. Answer these questions.


1. Who gave Anansi an unusual gift? What was it?
Answer: The sky god Nyame gave Anansi an unusual gift. It was a pot which contained all the wisdom of the
world.

2. What did Nyame instruct Anansi to do?


Answer: Nyame instructed Anansi to share the gift of wisdom with everyone in the world.
3. Did Anansi follow Nyame's instruction? Why?
Answer: No, Anansi did not follow Nyame's instruction because he was selfish and wanted to keep all the
wisdom for himself.
4. Where did he decide to hide the pot of wisdom?
Answer: He decided to hide the pot of wisdom at the topmost branch of a very tall tree.
5. What preparations did he make for this?
Answer: He made a very strong rope using the vines from the tree. He then used the vine to tie the pot with
his body
6. Why wasn't he successful at first?
Answer: He was not successful at first because he had tied the pot in front of his stomach, and it kept bumping
against the tree hurting him in the process.
7. How did wisdom spread in the world?
Answer: When Anansi dropped the pot of wisdom from the top of the tree, it fell to the ground and broke into
pieces, and the gift of the wisdom spread in the world.

Answer: He found it difficult to climb the tree as the pot was hanging against his stomach and kept bumping
against the tree and hurting him in the process.

Answer: Anansi’s young son gave him some good advice.

3. But Anansi was extremely angry. "What is the use of owning the pot of wisdom when even a young
boy has more common sense than I do?'
a. How had the young boy shown his wisdom to Anansi?
Answer: The young boy suggested that Anansi should tie the pot at his back so that it would not bump against
the tree.
b. Why was Anansi angry?
Answer: Anansi was angry because in spite of him owning the pot of wisdom, a young boy has more common
sense than he did.
c. What did he do as a result of his anger?
Answer: As a result of his anger, he dropped the pot of wisdom from the top of the tree.
d. What happened after this?
Answer: The pot broke into pieces and the wisdom stored inside it started flying in different directions.

Answer: From receiving the pot, Anansi decides to keep it for himself instead of sharing as instructed. He
struggles to hide it, his son suggests a better way, but Anansi gets angry, throws the pot, and it breaks, scattering
the wisdom.
2. Why do you think wisdom is necessary for everybody?
Answer: Wisdom is necessary for everyone because it helps in making better decisions, understanding others,
and navigating through life's challenges effectively.
3. In what way was Anansi's son better than Anansi?
Answer: Anansi's son showed greater wisdom than Anansi by offering a practical solution to his problem,
demonstrating observation and consideration for his father's well-being.
