Mirror Driver
A mirror driver is available for dedicated operating systems. The driver enables a direct link
between the video driver framme buffer memory and the Ultra-Server, which results in a lower
CPU load and improved performance.

Hints:
· An installation of the mirror driver is only required if the performance of the UltraVNC-
Server system is degraded due to permanent high CPU load.
· For Windows 7 operating systems select the folder "Vista" or "Vista64"
· The mirror driver is not available for Win10

Download
· Go to the download-section of the manufacturer
(http://www.uvnc.com/downloads/ultravnc.html)
· Open the link "download ultravnc 1.2.1.2" (or newer)
· Go to the section "Mirror Driver".
To start the download, click the button "Download" and follow the instructions.

Installation (administrator rights required)

· Unzip the zip-archive
· Go to the folder with your operating system. For 64 bit operating systems select the folder
with the extension "64". For 32 bit operating systems select the folder without an extension.
· Start the windows command line (CMD.exe) with administrator rights and navigate to the
folder containing the file "setupdrv.exe".
Execute the command "setupdrv.exe install"
· Confirm the windows security dialog by clicking "Install"
· Restart your pc
· Open the UltraVNC configuration dialog (see also Step 2 - Configure UltraVNC-Server) and
activate the checkbox "Use mirror driver" on the tab "Screen Capture"

Hint:
To test if the driver was installed successfully, you need to run the UltraVNC-Server as a
windows service and you need to establish a connection between UltraVNC-Viewer and
UltraVNC-Server. Now, open the UltraVNC-Server "Properties" Dialog on right clicking on the
UltraVNC icon in the taskbar and then you need to click the button "Check the Mirror Driver".
(Remark: On all other dialogs the check button for the Mirror Driver doesn’t work properly!)

Safety & Security Instructions

Please carefully consider the following notes concerning safety at work and IT-Security!

Safety at Work
Potential risk due to remote controlling of machines

Undefined or unexpected behaviour:

· On simultaneous use of mouse or keyboard both on UltraVNC-Client and on UltraVNC-
Server systems an undefined or unexpected behaviour may occur.
Situation of danger is not or delayed recognized by operators:
· Abnormal behaviour of the machine or safety risks are not or even delayed recognized by
the UltraVNC-Client-User.
· The screen of the UltraVNC-Server may be shown delayed on the UltraVNC-Client
· Due to connection problems actions taken by the UltraVNC-Client-Operator are not
transmitted or even with significant delay to the UltraVNC-Server
Mouse and keyboard control of the UltraVNC-Server can be disabled by the UltraVNC-Client:
· The operator of the UltraVNC-Viewer has always the possibility to disable mouse and
keyboard control of the UltraVNC-Server system!
· Controlling interactions on the UltraVNC-Server system are restricted as long as the
UltraVNC-Viewer has the exclusive control over the user interface of the UltraVNC-Server
system.
· The operator of the UltraVNC-Server has no chance to get back the mouse and keyboard
control by an action of himself. The control has to be returned by the operator of the
UltraVNC-Client.

Please take appropriate precautions to avoid any risks!

IT-Security
Potential IT-Security risk
· It is required that a TCP/IP connection on a dedicated port can be established between the
client and server system. In case of invalid or incomplete configuration the network
connection could suffer on security leaks that could be misused by intruders to get access to
your IT equipment. Please take care to fulfill the installation and configuration instructions
completely!
 Please consider seriously, whether the security level fulfills your IT-security requirements or
if it is required to apply additional precautions like VPN (Virtual Private Networks) or use of
an industrial firewall to increase the IT-Security level according to your standards.
 Activate the UltraVNC-Server only if a remote service session is required. Deactivate the
UltraVNC-Server immediately after the remote service session is closed to avoid abusive
access to your IT system via the Ultra VNC-Server.
 Run the UltraVNC-Service only in startup mode “manual“, to ensure that the service has to
be started explicitly to avoid a misuse of your IT-system.
 Run the UltraVNC-Service only in a mode, in which it is required to confirm the transfer of
control from the UltraVNC-Server to the UltraVNC Client explicitly, to avoid misuse and
unexpected loose of mouse and keyboard control..

Please take appropriate precautions to avoid any risks!
