ANALYSIS

1. How did you find the activity?

2. How did teamwork and communication impact
your success in the game?
3. What do you think is the connection between the
concepts being given?
Language Learning
Encompasses the development of the macro
skills such as reading, writing, listening, speaking
and viewing. The concern of the language is the
teacher, on how they teach these skills in a
holistic manner as these skills complement each
other when they used by people in
communicating.
Active Learning
Active learning approaches are characterized by
learners engagement in activities that are geared
towards the generation of new knowledge or
making meaning to an existing knowledge
while developing other 21st century skills (such
as collaboration, media literacy, critical thinking)
in the process.
4 Active Learning Approaches:
1. Inquiry-based Learning (IBL)
2. Research-based Learning
3. Problem-based Learning
4. Project-based Learning (PBL)
Differences:
Differences:
The Role of the Teacher

The teacher plays an essential role in active

learning. Though learners are given more
autonomy to explore the material, it is still the
teacher's responsibility to create an effective
learning environment.
Ideas to Maximize the Effectiveness
of Active Learning:
First, create an environment that is open
and welcoming.
Second, provide meaningful feedback.
Third, focus on the process rather than the
outcome.
Finally, mix things up by using different
types of activities.
Challenges of Active Learning:
TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
With the large variety of software and
hardware available, teachers must select the
systems that meet the specific needs of the
classroom or lesson. This often requires a
financial investment; sometimes, teachers
may need more funds to purchase the right
technology.
Challenges of Active Learning:
CLASS TIME SCHEDULES
Active learning activities often require more
time than a traditional lecture-style lecture,
which can cause scheduling problems in a
classroom.
Challenges of Active Learning:
LESSON PLAN PREPARATION
Active learning lessons require detailed
preparation that can be time-consuming.
Teachers must plan the activities, determine
technology requirements, and create a
cohesive task. This poses a challenge for
teachers who have different resources or
knowledge to prepare the activities.
Challenges of Active Learning:
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
Active learning can be challenging if students
are not engaged. Students may become bored
or lose interest during the lesson if the
activities could be better planned and
structured.
APPLICATION:
On a ½ sheet of paper, make a reflective essay about the
challenges of active learning approaches. Demonstrate what
you’ve learned by discussing its challenges, and then provide a
strategy to cope with these challenges.

ASSIGNMENT

Imagine you’re an English high-school teacher planning a

lesson for a class. Choose a grade level, then design a semi-
detailed lesson plan. Then choose two of the four active
learning approaches and explain why you chose these
approaches for a particular part of the lesson. Put it on an A4
sheet of paper with an Arial font size 12 and a normal margin.
