An Assignment on Organizational Structure & Management: A Case Study

on Raicho Comprehensive Village Development Cooperative Society

1. Introduction
A cooperative (also known as co-operative, co-op, or coop) is "an autonomous association of
persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and
aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically-controlled enterprise". Cooperatives are
democratically controlled by their members, with each member having one vote in electing the
board of directors. Cooperatives are people-centered enterprises owned, controlled and run by and
for their members to realize their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations.

2. Background of Formation of Raicho Comprehensive village development

Cooperative Society
On 31st August 1978, Raicho Youth Welfare Cooperative Society was established by 10
unemployed youths of the village with a capital of 10 rupees. Later, when they realized that it is
not possible to bring the welfare of the village through any organization with only the youth, and
the village poverty alleviation and the improvement of the quality of life of the villagers must be
achieved through the organization, then we got an idea about the Comprehensive Village
Development Program (CVDP) of Bangladesh Rural Development Academy.
Later in 1991 they joined CVDP on the advice of BARD and CVDP officials and the association
was named Raicho Sarbik Gram Unnoyan Samabay Samity Ltd. and was admitted to KTCCA Ltd.
on 19/07/2005. They first registered on 29th October,1979 and re-registered on 5th January ,1994.
