MUSICAL PRELUDE

OPENING SENTENCES

CENTERING SONG: We Are Standing On Holy Ground

This is holy ground

We’re standing on holy ground,
For the Lord is here and where He is, is holy;
This is holy ground
We’re standing on holy ground,
For the Lord is here and where He is, is holy.

We Are Standing On Holy Ground

And I Know, I Know There Are Angels All Around
Let Us Praise, Jesus Now
For We Are Standing In His Presence On Holy Ground.

These are holy hands,

We’re lifting up holy hands,
For the Lord works through these hands and so they’re holy;
These are holy hands,
We’re lifting up holy hands,
For the Lord works through these hands and so they’re holy.

Call to Worship

Great is our God, and worthy of praise!

God’s goodness knows no limit;
God’s faithfulness toward us is boundless!

God, your majesty and glory surround us here.

We’ve come together to celebrate your presence,
and to offer songs of praise and worship.
We’ve come to rejoice in your mighty acts,

1
2
and to retell the story of your goodness
throughout history and in our own lives.

Move among us as we worship together;

may your Spirit guide and inspire our thoughts and actions
as we spend this time in your presence.
In the name of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Opening Song……………How Great Is Our God

The splendor of the King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice, all the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice, trembles at His voice

How great is our God

Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see
How great, how great
Is our God

And age to age He stands

And time is in His hands
Beginning and the End, Beginning and the End
The Godhead, Three in One
Father, Spirit, Son
The Lion and the Lamb, the Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God

Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see
How great, how great
Is our God

Name above all names

Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
Name above all names
You are worthy of all praise
My heart will sing how great
Is our God

How great is our God

Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see
How great, how great
Is our God

How great is our God
Sing with me
How great is our God
And all will see
How great, how great

Prayer of Adoration

God of might and mercy,

we come to you today, proclaiming your power and your promise
in a world where there are many things which frighten us.
Today we proclaim your power
to defeat the forces that work against your hope for the world.
We proclaim your love
that cracks open our hearts and draws us to you and to one another.
We proclaim your promise in Jesus Christ
that nothing can separate from your love.
Strengthen us in this hour of worship
to live out our trust in your power and promise
in friendship with Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Prayer of Confession

God of mercy,
we confess that the world around us is in a mess.
Countries turn arguments over territory into threats of terror.
Old enemies stir up conflict within their tribes and nations.
The threat of violence keeps us all on edge.
We are sorry for times when anger or bitterness made us resentful.
We are sorry that the desire to get even turns us from your mercy.
Forgive us for not learning from past conflicts
what leads to peace with justice.
Forgive us, O God, and shine the light of Christ on us,
so that we can know his peace and his purposes for us. Amen

Assurance of Pardon
Sisters and brothers, Holy Scripture says:
“The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all and his mercy is over all his works.”

In the name of the living God,

through the grace of Christ Jesus the Son,
and with the authority of the Spirit,
I declare to you the forgiveness of sins
and the life that is eternal!

We will extol you, our God and Saviour,

and glorify your name forever and ever!
Every day we will praise you,
and glorify your name forever and ever. Amen

Old Testament Reading............................................Haggai 1: 5b - 2:9

Responsive Litany………………………………..Psalm 145: 1, 17-21

I will exalt you, my God;

and bless your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will bless you;
and praise your name for ever and ever.
You are great, LORD God, and greatly to be praised;
your greatness is unsearchable.
Generation to generation will praise your doings;
and declare your mighty deeds.
They will speak of the glory of your splendour;
I will meditate on your marvelous works.
You are just in all your ways, O LORD;
and faithful in all your doings.
You are near to all who call on you;
to all who call on you in truth.
You take care of the desires of all who fear you;
their cry for help you will hear, and you will save them.
O LORD, you watch over all who love you;
the wicked you will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD;
and all flesh will bless your holy name.

Sermon……………………………………………Bishop Theophilus Rolle
Prayer of Commitment

Prayers of Intercession
Holy God,
you call us to be faithful in our everyday lives,
in times of joy and of sorrow,
in busyness and at rest,
in the simple things and the complicated ones.
Help us to follow you faithfully,
to seek your guidance and strength,
and to believe even when you feel far away.

Creator God,
the world is your gift and our home.
Give us determination and courage
to live kindly and gently on the earth.
Forgive our greed; our constant need for more.
We pray for the world’s leaders,
that they will not let us down in their deliberations and decisions.
We pray for young people,
giving thanks for their voices, calling for change;
and that we older humans
will leave them a world that can sustain life,
a world of justice and peace.

God of love, you know of human pain.

We bring to you all who suffer;
those who are ill or frail,
those who are poor or homeless,
refugees, political prisoners,
those who are anxious or sad or lonely,
those who have lost loved ones (pause)
and those whose lives are drawing to a close (pause).
In our suffering you often seem far away.
Bless us all with the knowledge of your presence,
and help us to be faithful even when life is dark.

Lord, we give you thanks

for those who inspire and guide us,
for those whose memory we treasure,
for your voice calling us to follow,
and for your great love for us,
constant and true even when we waver or turn away.
Bless us in our lives’ journeys,
and, at the end, bring us home to you. Amen
