LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET No. 6.0

Name: _____________________________________ Year and Section: _____________ Score:

Subject: GENERAL PHYSICS 1
Type of Activity
Concept Notes Skills/Exercise/Drills Review/Unit Test Others: ___________
Activity Title: MOTION ALONG A STRAIGHT LINE: DISPLACEMENT, TIME, AND AVERAGE VELOCITY
Learning Target: To solve the problem solving involving the displacement, time and average velocity
Reference: H. Young, D and R. Freedman, A. University Physics with Modern Physics, 12 nd edition. Page 37 – page 39.
Displacement – is a vector connecting the initial position P1 and the final position P2 of the
body. It is defined as the difference of the final position vector x and the initial position
vector x:
Average Velocity - defines the rate of change of the position vector in time not
approaching zero. It is also define as the ratio of displacement too place:
, when,
Example:
1) Position of a dragster at two times during its run, first position is 19 m with time1.0s and
second position is 277m with time of 4.0s.
a. Calculate the displacement from P1 and P2.
Solution: Given; P1 = 19m, and P2 = 277m

b. Calculate the time from P1 and P2.

Solution: Given; t1 = 1.0s, and t2 = 4.0s

c. Calculate the average velocity

Solution: Given: , and

Exercises: Solve the following problem and show your solution in neat and clear.
1) Position of a dragster at two times during its run, first position is 25 m with time5.0s and
second position is 350m with time of 16s.
a. Calculate the displacement from P1 and P2.
b. Calculate the time from P1 and P2.
c. Calculate the average velocity
2) Mr. Bean drives his car with initial position in 50m with time of 15s and he reaches his
destination in 200m with the time of 50s. a. Calculate the displacement, b. time from P1
and c. P2, and average velocity.
