General objective: discuss environmental problems and solutions to social problems.
Part A: discuss environmental problems using the present continuous passive and present perfect passive tenses
and prepositions of cause.
En la parte A de esta lección, describiremos problemas medioambientales y sociales utilizando el “present

by, because of, due to, through, and as a result of to describe causes.
1 • Present continuous passive
• The present continuous passive describes an action that is in progress right now.
• Let’s see how to form the present continuous passive: → subject + is/are being + past participle

1 = Subject 2 = Present continuous of BE 3 = Past participle

Our fresh water supply is being contaminated
Our city streets are being damaged
The roads aren’t being repaired
Too many trees are being cut down right now/these days.

2 • Present perfect passive

• The present perfect passive describes something that started before the present (the exact time isn’t important).
• Let’s see how to form the present perfect passive: → subject + has/have been + past participle
1 = Subject 2 = Present perfect of BE 3 = Past participle
Too many trees have been cut down recently/in the last few years.
Our community has been closed
Many public parks have been lost

• Prepositions to describe the cause of a problem:

• We can use the prepositions: by, because of, due to, through, and as a result of to indicate the causes. They are
used before the cause. These words have similar meanings
• By: por
• Because of: a causa de O debido a
• Due to: debido a
• Through: a través de
• As a result of: como resultado de O a raíz de

• Let’s see how to change an active sentence into a passive sentence.
