Matter in Our Surroundings

Matter: Everything in the universe is made up of materials ie matter.


Eg. Air, cloud, sand, stars, plants, animals etc.
Matter has mass & volume.
The thing which occupies space having mass & volume is called matter.
The living, non-living things around the matter is called surroundings.
Matter is classified on the basis of physical properties & chemical nature.
Is air matter?
Yes because
• Air has mass.
• It occupies space.
The things which are not matter:
• Heat
• Sound
• Light
Physical nature of the Matter: (2 marks)
 1.Matter is made up of Particles.
 2. Particles of matter are very small.
Characteristics of Particles of Matter:
 1.Particles of matter have space between them.
 2. Particles of matter are continuously moving.
 3.Particles of matter attract each other,
 4. Particles of matter are very small.
States of matter:
• Solid
• Liquid
• Gas
