Nine Basic Patterns of
Simple Declarative Sentence

Basic Pattern: Subject + Predicate (Verb + Complement/Object/Adverb).

Sub + Verb + Complement/Object/Adverb.
উ঩রয প্রদত্ত basic sentence patternটি রেয়ার কযলর রদো মায় রম, English language এ প্রতিটি Sentence এয দুটি ঄ং঱
থালক; অয িা ঴লরা

Subject ফরলি অভযা sentence এয র঳আ ঄ং঱লক বুতি মায ঳ম্পলকে sentence এ অলরাচনা কযা ঴য়। অয predicate ঴লরা
sentence এয র঳আ ঄ং঱ মা দ্বাযা subject ঳ম্পলকে ফরা ঴য়। তনলচয sentenceটি রথলক অভযা বুিলি ঩াতয –
Bangladesh is a small country.
উ঩লযয Sentence এ Bangladesh ঳ম্পলকে কথা ফরা ঴লে। িাআ এোলন Bangladesh ঴লরা Subject। অয ‘is a small
country’ এআ ঄ং঱টিলি Bangladesh ঳ম্পলকে ফরা ঴লয়লে, িাআ িা ঴লরা Predicate।

Sentence এ subject ঴লি ঩ালয একটি ভাত্র word ফা phrase ফা clause. তনলচয তিনটি sentence রেয়ার কযলরআ রফািা মালফ।
1. Bangladesh is a small country.
এোলন একটি word ‘Bangladesh’ subject ত঴ল঳লফ ফল঳লে।
2. The people of Bangladesh are hard working.
এোলন একটি phrase ‘The people of Bangladesh’ subject ত঴ল঳লফ ফল঳লে।
3. That Bangladesh is a small country is known to all.
এোলন একটি clause ‘That Bangladesh is a small country’ subject ত঴ল঳লফ ফল঳লে।

Predicate ঄ং঱টি গঠিি ঴য় verb এফং প্রলয়াজলন Object, Complement এফং Adverb ব্যফ঴ায কলয। তনলচ predicate এয
঄ংল঱য তফস্তাতযি অলরাচনা঳঴ Simple Declarative Sentence এয ৯টি basic patters উদা঴যণ঳঴ অলরাচনা কযা ঴লয়লে।

Discussion of the Parts of Predicate:

1. Complement:
Sentence এয রম ঄ং঱ দ্বাযা Subject ফা Object এয নতুন ঩তযচয় তনলদ ে঱ কলয ঄থফা Subject ফা Object রক Modify
কলয (রদাল-গুণ, ঄ফস্থা, ঄ফস্থান, আিযাতদ তনলদ ে঱ কলয) িালক Complement ফলর।

রমভনঃ
a. He is a chairman. (Subject এয নতুন ঩তযচয় - chairman)
b. We made him chairman. (Object এয নতুন ঩তযচয় - chairman)
c. She is angry. (Subject এয ঄ফস্থা - angry)
d. We made her angry. (Object এয ঄ফস্থা - angry)
e. She is in the room. (Subject এয ঄ফস্থান - in the room)
তফ.দ্র.: নতুন ঩তযচয় তনলদ ে঱ কযলি Noun ফা Noun Phrase ব্যফ঴ায কযা ঴য়। ঄ন্যতদলক Modify কযলি Adjective ফা
Adjective Phrase এফং ঄ফস্থান ফা ঳ভয় তনলদ ে঱ কযলি Adverb ফা Adverb Phrase ব্যফ঴ায কযা ঴য়। রমভনঃ The program
is at 10:00 pm. They were in the field.

Complement এয প্রকাযলবদঃ
i) Parts of Speech এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয Complement তিন প্রকায। মথাঃ
a. Noun Complement: Complement টি মতদ Noun ফা Noun Phrase ঴য়।
She is a teacher. They are fishermen. We are human beings.

b. Adjective Complement: Complement টি মতদ Adjective ফা Adjective Phrase ঴য়।

She seems very wise. The story sounds interesting. We were interested.

c. Adverbial Complement: Complement টি মতদ Adverb ফা Adverb Phrase ঴য়।

She is on the second floor. The programme is at 9:30 am. We were out of the meeting.

ii) Sentence এয ব্যফ঴ালযয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয Complement দুআ প্রকায। মথাঃ
a. Subjective Complement: Subject রক তনলদ ে঱ কলয রম Complement।
He is a chairman. The work is very hard. Bangladesh is in South Asia.

b. Objective Complement: Object রক তনলদ ে঱ কলয রম Complement।

We found him sick. They made me angry.

Linking Verb:
রম ঳কর Verb, Subjective Complement রক Subject এয ঳ালথ যুক্ত কলয িালদয Linking Verb ফরা ঴য়। রমভনঃ
Be verb, seem, deem, appear, get, become, look, etc.
রমভনঃ He got tired. He became very happy.

Factitive Verb:
রম ঳কর Verb, Objective Complement রক Object এয ঳ালথ যুক্ত কলয িালদয Factitive Verb ফরা ঴য়। রমভনঃ
Make, name, call, appoint, nominate, elect, select, find, see, etc.
রমভনঃ They made me captain. My mother named me Milon. My friends called me fool.

Complement এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয English Language এ Simple Declarative Sentence এয ৫টি Basic Patterns
অলে।
মথাঃ
 Subjective Complement এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয ৩টিঃ
Sub + L. V + Subjective Complement.
১। Subject + Linking Verb + Noun Complement.
Shamim is a good boy. Bangladesh is a small country. English is an international language. This
is my friend.

2। Subject + Linking Verb + Adjective Complement.

Shamim is good. My computer is very costly. She looks beautiful.

3। Subject + Be Verb + Adverbial Complement.

Shamim is in the class. The bird is in the sky. The mangoes are in the tree. Our class was at 8.30
am.

 Objective Complement এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয ২টিঃ

4। Subject + Factitive Verb + Object + Noun Complement.
My father calls me John. They selected me their leader. We nominated him our mentor.

5। Subject + Factitive Verb + Object + Adjective Complement.

My father made me happy. We found him dead. I saw him playing.

৭। িাযা গ্রালভয ফাতিলি অলে।
৮। অভালদয ক্লা঳ যাি ৮টায় ঴লফ।
৯। োত্রোত্রীযা নীযফ তের।
১০। রপ঳বুক একটি জনতপ্রয় ঳াভাতজক রমাগালমাগ ভাধ্যভ।
১১। িায উ঩তস্থতি অভালদয ঄নুষ্ঠানটিলক উ঩লবাগ্য কলয
তুলরতের।
১২। অভায দাদু অভায নাভ তদলয়তের যতফন।
১৩। ঐ ররাকগুলরা তের ঳ন্ত্রা঳ী।
১৪। ফআটি ব্যালগ অলে।
১৫। অজ তফকার ৫টায় একটি তভটিং অলে।

2. Object:
a. The object in English grammar refers to a noun or pronoun that receives either the action of
the verb or the direction of the preposition.
Subject রকালনা কাজ ঳ম্পাদন কযলি রম ব্যতক্ত, ফস্তু, তফলয় ফা তজতনল঳য উ঩য প্রিযক্ষবালফ তনবেয কলয ঄থ োৎ মায ঄নু঩তস্থতিলি
উক্ত কাজটি কযা Subject এয ঩লক্ষ ঳ম্ভফ নয় িালক Object ফলর। রমভনঃ
I read a book.
এোলন Subject রম কাজটি কযলে (read) র঳টি book নাভক তজতন঳টিয উ঩য তনবেয কলয। এোলন book তজতন঳টি না থাকলর
Subject (I) ঩লক্ষ (read) কাজটি কযা রভালট঑ ঳ম্ভফ নয়।
সুিযাং, এআ Sentence এ read verbটিয object ঴লরা a book.
একআবালফ তনলচয Sentence গুলরালি Object ব্যফহৃি ঴লয়লে।
They are watching a movie. He taught me a nice lesson. The shepherds were grazing their
sheep. I am going to buy a computer. She has a good friend.

Transitive Verb:
রম verb ঳ম্পাদন কযলি Subject রক প্রিযক্ষবালফ ঄ন্যলকালনা ব্যতক্ত ফা তজতনল঳য (Object) উ঩য তনবেয কযলি ঴য় র঳
Verb রক Transitive Verb ফলর। ঄থ োৎ রম Verb এয ঄ফশ্যআ Object রালগ।

interesting story. He drives a highway bus. I found a strange thing.

Transitive Verb এয প্রকাযলবদ:

একটি Transitive Verb এয কয়টি Object রাগলফ িায উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয Transitive Verb দুআ প্রকায। মথাঃ
১। Mono-transitive Verb: রম Transitive Verb এয ১টি Object রালগ। রমভনঃ
He is enjoying a movie. I am learning English language. You should help her. I have repaired my
house. The crow did not find any food.

২। Di-transitive Verb: রম Transitive Verb এয ২টি Object রালগ। রমভনঃ

He gave me some advice. The teacher is teaching the students English. The noble committee awarded
Nelson Mandela Noble Peace Prize. She asked me some questions. I told him the matter.
Di-transitive verb এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয Object দুআ প্রকায। মথাঃ
1. Direct Object: রম object, verb এয action ফা প্রবাফলক ঳যা঳তয receive ফা গ্র঴ণ কলয িালক Direct Object
ত঴ল঳লফ ফল঳।
রমভনঃ

2. Indirect Object: Object এয স্থালন রকালনা ব্যতক্তলক ব্যফ঴ায কযলর িালক Indirect Object ফলর।
Parents should teach their child good manners.
উ঩লয প্রদত্ত sentence এ ‘ good manners’ ঴লরা direct object কাযণ এআ phraseটি ‘teach’ verbটিয action রক ঳যা঳তয
গ্র঴ণ কযলে। অয ‘their child’ phraseটি ঴লরা indirect object কাযণ িা direct object ‘good manners’ রক receive
কযলে।

 Object এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয English Language এ Simple Declarative Sentence এয 2টি Basic Patterns
অলে। মথাঃ
৬। Subject + Mono-transitive Verb + Object.
She won the first position. We are studying English language. He delivered a motivational lecture. Mr
Kibria runs a large company. They made a sea voyage.

৭। Subject + Di-transitive Verb + Indirect Object + Direct Object.

঄থফাঃ
Subject + Di-transitive Verb + Direct Object + (Preposition – to/for/with) + Indirect Object.
He gave me some money. Or, He gave some money to me. We asked him the matter. My
friends gifted me a nice watch. The story taught us an encouraging lesson. The college gives
full free studentship to the poor students.

৩। িাযা অভালক ঳া঴ায্য কলযতের।
৪। র঳ চাযাগালে ঩াতন তদলে।
৫। োত্রোত্রীলদয ঳ঠিক তদকতনলদ ে঱না দযকায।
৬। অভায অভালক দাদু ভজায ভজায গল্প ফরলিন।
৭। অভায বাআ অভালক তফলয়টি ফলরতের।
৮। এক আংলযতজ কতফলক িায এক ফন্ধু একটি ঩াল঳ ের ঩াঠিলয়তের।
৯। একজন ঄঩তযতচি ররাক অভালক ঳ঠিক ঩থটি রদতেলয়তের।
১০। ত঩িাভািায উতচি িায ঳ন্তানলদয বালরা অচযণ ত঱োলনা।

Intransitive Verb:
রম Verb ঳ম্পাদন কযলি Subject রক প্রিযক্ষবালফ ঄ন্যলকালনা ব্যতক্ত ফা তজতনল঳য (Object) উ঩য তনবেয কযলি ঴য় না র঳
Verb রক Intransitive Verb ফলর। ঄থ োৎ রম Verb এয Object ফা Complement রালগ না। রমভনঃ
His father is walking. They were shouting. The dog is barking. The wind blows. Water flows. The
man died.
Intransitive Verb এয উ঩য তবতত্ত কলয English Language এ Simple Declarative Sentence এয 1টি Basic Pattern
অলে। মথাঃ

৮. Subject + Intransitive Verb.

For examples:
They are gossiping. The child was crying. Wind is blowing. The horse is running. It is raining.

Introductory ‘There’ ব্যফ঴ায কলয Sentence Pattern

 Introductory ‘There’:
English Language এ ‘There’ এয তিন ধযলণয ব্যফ঴ায যলয়লে। মথাঃ
1. Adverbial ‘There’ – I went there.
2. Interjection ‘There’ – Look! Look! There! There!
3. Introductory ‘There’ – There is a harmony in nature.
