1. General Project Characteristics: Describing and Outlining the Key
Points of a Project
This project is centred on designing a fitness application to encourage tracking of workouts,
diet and goal setting. This app will also come packed with tools like, custom workouts,
fitness tracking wearable devices compatibility, a community stand to encourage users
(García-Fernández et al., 2020). The project is set to be done within a certain timeframe with
cross functional teams holding responsibility of developing a quality app.

2. Why Projects Are Important: Explaining Five Key Points

● Achieving strategic goals: The fitness app will also contribute to the growth of market
niche by targeting the fitness consumers and assisting the consumers in enhancing
their health standards.
● Innovative solutions: The app aspires to present new methods of tracking fitness,
including individual programs, an option for real-time monitoring, and social
integration elements.
● Improved resource management: The project will make it easier to manage the
resources such as the finances and the development process to make the app available
in the market on time.

● Termination: Upload it to the app stores, collect the initial feedback, and consider the
further improvements.

4. Project Performance Assessment: The Four Stages of Assessment

● Initiation: It is necessary to determine the goals of the fitness app implementation
and state them clearly, for example, increase the accuracy of fitness tracking and the
user’s engagement.
● Planning: Check that risk (such as technology) is covered and understanding that
resources (such as developers and wearable integration) are available.
● Execution: Track the application development process to meet the deadlines and
quality requirements set for interfaces and usability.
● Termination: Assess if the app was useful to its users, on-time release, and feedback
received.

5. Dimensions of Project Success

● Time: Ensure the app is released within the agreed timeframe to capture market
interest.
● Cost: Keep the development within budget to maintain profitability.
● Quality: The app must function seamlessly, providing users with a high-quality
experience.
● Scope: Deliver all promised features, such as personalized workouts, progress
tracking, and wearable integration.

6. Success Criteria in Projects

Success criteria define what a successful outcome looks like for a project. For a mobile app
project, success criteria may include:

● Functionality: The app must track workouts and nutrition effectively, without bugs.

● User experience: Provide a smooth, intuitive, and enjoyable fitness experience for
users (Bitrián et al., 2021).

● Market launch: Launch the app on time, across major platforms (iOS, Android).

● Budget adherence: Ensure the app is developed within financial constraints (Syeed et
al., 2021).

4
● User feedback: Measure success through positive reviews, user retention, and
engagement (Bitrián et al., 2021).

7. Project Evaluation Criteria: Choosing and Explaining Five

● Timeliness: Make sure the app is out before the peak season for fitness activities.
● Budget compliance: Ensure that the development does not go over budget but still
provide the foundational features.
● Quality: The key points of attention should be the interface, the problem-free
functioning, and the compatibility with wearable devices.
● Risk management: Enumerate the risks like poor performance of the app or delayed
integration of wearable features.
● Stakeholder satisfaction: Make sure the sponser and the users are happy with how the
app performs and how successful it is.

8. Scoring Models and Limitations

● Usability: Evaluate how user-friendly the fitness tracking features are.
● Technical feasibility: Assess the integration with wearable devices and fitness
platforms.
● Market readiness: Ensure the app is ready for launch with no major bugs or missing
features.

9. Checklist Model for Project Screening and Selection

● Market demand: Make certain that there will be a high demand for applications and
other related services based on fitness tracking.
● Business alignment: Assess the congruence of the app to the business objectives to
enhance user interaction (Bitrián et al., 2021).
● Technical feasibility: Consider the possibility of hardware requirements and
compatibility when interacting with wearables and other devices.
● Resource availability: Make sure you have the right skill set of developers and
designers in place.
● Risk assessment: Discover possible issues, such as interfaces or escalating wearable
integration times.

5
10. Types of Projects: Explaining Four Distinct Types
● IT Projects: Developing the fitness app and ensuring smooth integration with fitness
devices and platforms.
● Construction Projects: Building physical structures such as homes, offices, or bridges.
● Research and Development (R&D) Projects: Aimed at developing new products or
technologies, often involving innovation and experimentation.
● Event Management Projects: Organizing events such as conferences, festivals, or
product launches, which involve managing logistics, participants, and vendors.

11. Scarce Resources in Project Management

In a fitness app project, some resources could be labelled as scarce, for instance, competent
developers familiar with health tracking gadgets and wearable devices. These specialized
skills are in demand, and recruiting the right people might be a challenge in some cases.
Furthermore, resource factors like the budget may build constraints on the identified project
on the extent of details that could be incorporated such as customised workout information
and fitness tracking (García-Fernández et al., 2020). Supporting features, which may include
features that are helpful but not necessary, may be reduced or postponed to balance the
budget while creating a durable app with good usability for users. The rationing of resources
has been deemed central in the accomplishment of projects.

12. Leaders vs Managers: Describing Differences

In a fitness app project, leaders tend to work at the top level since their goal is to bring the
app to the top among the numerous fitness applications. They spearhead the discovery
process, motivate the team and link the project to strategic business objectives that help to
keep the application relevant and sustainable. While on the other hand managers are in charge
of the daily operations and implementation of the work. They make sure the project stays on
track, doesn’t go over the set budget, and includes all required specifications (Northouse,
2021). While the former defines the direction, the latter provides the details of how to go
about the development of the app while giving the users value. Each of them is crucial for the
project’s advancement and successful completion.

6
13. Project Manager Duties and Roles
● Planning: Create the project plan where wearable integration and individual workout
creating will be involved.
● Resource Management: Designate capital to be spent on new applications, their beta
versions, and enhancing user interfaces.
● Risk Management: Special risks such as failed integration, or delays in testing of the
applications.
● Monitoring and Controlling: Monitor progress in order to facilitate time bound
delivery of the app as well as within user constraints.

14. Effective Project Leaders: Key Traits

Effective project leaders in the fitness app development will be visionary, understanding the
rapidly evolving fitness tech market and anticipating future trends. They will force innovation
by thus having to suit the market, in an effort to keep the application relevant (Kanivets et al.,
2020). Effective leaders will also encourage and challenge their teams into coming up with
wonderful features that will meet the consumers’ expectations. This flexibility will enable
them to react to challenges effectively and alter plans to meet the users and market demands.
Effective communication and setting of goals will assist in ensuring that the team is on course
on the development of the outstanding fitness app in the market (García-Fernández et al.,
2020).

15. Strategic Management Elements in Projects

● Goal Setting: It is required to achieve 30% increase in user engagement for fitness
tracking functionality. This entails designing elements, which compel users to monitor
their exercise regimen and progress consistently (Bitrián et al., 2021).
● Resource Allocation: Requested features: Increase effectiveness of budget and
workforce allocation to important app components, with focus on workout tracking
and improving user engagement.
● Performance Monitoring: Some of the KPIs include downloads, users’ session,
bounce rates, and retention to be used in determining the effectiveness of the app.
● Risk Management: Cope with all the potential risks, such as technical problems and
the slowness in Wearable device integration incorporating risk management methods
(Tangari et al., 2021).

7
16. Project Stakeholders: Describing the Different Stakeholders in Project
Management
Responsible for planning, executing, and closing the project, ensuring timely delivery, within
budget, and meeting specifications.

● Development Team: Includes app developers, wearable integration specialists, and

designers responsible for coding and testing the app.
● End Users: Fitness enthusiasts, beginners, and health-conscious individuals who will
use the app.
● Marketing Team: Promotes the app and ensures it reaches the target audience.
● Support Team: Handles troubleshooting and customer service post-launch.
● Regulatory Authorities: Ensures compliance with data protection laws and app store
guidelines.

17. Project Stakeholder Relationships: Using a Diagram to Explain

Relationships

● Sponsor: Provides the vision, goals, and funding to the Project Manager.
● Project Manager: Communicates with the Development Team, Marketing Team, and
Support Team to ensure smooth progress.
● Development Team: Works under the direction of the project manager, while
collaborating with End Users to ensure the app meets user needs.

8
● End Users: Provide feedback, which the project manager uses to inform development
and marketing strategies (Belyaeva et al. 2020).
● Marketing Team: Works with the Project Manager and End Users to promote the app.
● Regulatory Authorities: Oversee legal compliance, coordinating with the Project
Manager.

18. Levels of Project Offices

There are generally three levels of Project Management Offices (PMOs):
● Supportive PMO: Provides guidance, templates, and best practices. This PMO is ideal
for projects where teams can manage much of the process but require occasional
support.
● Controlling PMO: Provides support but also requires teams to adhere to specific
methodologies and governance frameworks. For a mobile app launch, this ensures the
project follows a standardised process (Pirotti, 2021).
● Directive PMO: This PMO takes full control of the project, managing all decision-
making. It is best suited for high-stakes projects where success is critical to the
business.

19. Cultural Impact on Project Development: Key Factors

When creating a fitness application for people around the world certain cultural factors need
to be put into consideration. The choice of workout in different regions differs and this may
range from Yoga or group exercises to hardcore training. That which relates to the choice of
colours and the general outlook of the app should be done in a way that will suit different
cultures (Shiraev and Levy, 2020). Also, language translation is very important since, users
can employ the app in their own country language making it easy to use. Awareness of such
cultural factors helps to make sure that the fitness app is appealing and helpful to people
around the world.

20. Functional Organisational Structure: Example

In a functional organisational structure, the project is managed within a specific department.
For example, in the case of a mobile app launch, the IT Department would manage the app’s
development. Developers, designers, and testers would report to their respective functional
managers, while the project manager coordinates across departments to ensure that timelines

9
and objectives are met (Greiwe and Nyenhuis, 2020). Other departments, such as marketing
and support, would also contribute to the project’s success.
