Motivation Letter CERN Summer Programme
Muon imaging has filled my heart starting when Dr. Suharyo Sumowidagdo
recommended a topic to my advisor Dr. Tony Ibnu Sumaryada on muography volcano
imaging. After being study about muon imaging has captivated my attention due to its
unique ability to provide non-invasive insights into geological structures,
archaeological artifacts, and even industrial materials. The innovative projects
conducted at CERN, such as “Micromegas detectors for muography: Applications and
recent developments in detection systems and data analysis” and “SiPM (Silicon
Photomultiplier)-based scintillator”, have served as a driving force behind my desire
to learning detectors for muon imaging in this CERN Summer Program.
My interest continued when I did a research internship at the National Research and
Innovation Agency under Dr. Zulkaida Akbar, under whom I learned a lot about
particle physics, statistics, basic machine learning, Geant4 and fundamentals of
detector technology. Not only that, together with him I ran Geant4 Muon Tomography
simulations for the Evaluation of Deposits in Oil Industry Pipelines.
One of the most important components in muon imaging is the detector, without
muon detectors objects cannot be reconstructed properly. therefore it is very important
to learn muon detectors for a muographer. One of the detectors that I want to learn at
CERN Summer Student is the micromegas detector for muography and the SiPM-
based scintillator detector. Through my coursework in Research Intership with Dr.
Zulkaida Akbar, I have developed a strong foundation in particle physics,
fundamentals of detector technology, and Geant4 simulation that I believe will
contribute to my understanding of the complexities associated with these detectors.
