a) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is correct explanation for assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is not correct explanation for assertion.
c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.

c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.
3.ASSERTION: When one body rolls over the surface of another body, the resistance to its motion is
called rolling friction. Rolling reduces friction. It is always easier to roll than to slide a body over another.
REASON: It is convenient to pull luggage fitted with rollers.

d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.
4. ASSERTION: Petroleum was formed from organisms living in the sea.
REASON: As these organisms died, their bodies settled at the bottom of the sea and got covered with
layers of sand and clay. Over millions of years, absence of air, high temperature and high pressure
transformed the dead organisms into petroleum and natural gas.
a) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is correct explanation for assertion.
b) Assertion and reason both are correct statement and reason is not correct explanation for assertion.
c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.

(2) Define Earthing.

Q.4Study the given case study and answer the questions that follow. [4x3=12 marks]

[I] You have seen several kinds of plants and animals. However, there are other living organisms around us
which we normally cannot see. These are called microorganisms or microbes. For example, you might
have observed that during the rainy season moist bread gets spoilt and its surface gets covered with greyish
white patches. Observe these patches through a magnifying glass. You will see tiny, black rounded
structures. Do you know what these structures are and where do these come from? Water and soil are full
of tiny organisms, though not all of them fall into the category of microbes .These microorganisms or
microbes are so small in size that they cannot be seen with the unaided eye. Some of these can be seen with
a magnifying glass. Others cannot be seen without the help of a microscope. That is why these are-called
microorganisms or microbes. Some microorganisms grow on other organisms while others exist freely.

Que. 1) Which of the following only reproduce inside the cells of host organisms like bacteria, plants or
animals.
(a) Microbes
(b) Viruses
(c) Spores
(d) Bacillus

(b) Viruses
(c) Dirt
(d) Fungus
Que. 4) State the major groups of classification of microorganisms.

[II] An archer stretches her bow while taking aim at the target. She then releases the arrow, which begins
to the target. Based on this information fill up the gaps in the following statements:
(a) To stretch the bow, the archer applies a force that causes a change in its______________.
(b) The force applied by the archer to stretch the bow is an example of________________force.
(c) The type of force responsible for a change in the state of motion of the arrow is an example of a
_____________ force.
(d) While the arrow moves towards its target, the forces acting on it are due to_______________ and that
due to _________________ of air.

[III] Some substances, like magnesium catches fire and burns with a dazzling white flame when heated in
air. Similarly, when a piece of paper is brought near a candle flame, it burns, producing heat and light. The
charcoal and coal bums in air producing carbon dioxide, heat and light.
Air or oxygen which helps in burning is called supporter of combustion and the chemical reaction which
takes place with the release of heat and light energy is called combustion.
The process in which a substance reacts with oxygen to give off heat is called combustion.
The substances which undergo combustion are known as combustible substances. It may also be called a
fuel.
1) Which of the following is combustible?
(a) Iron nail
(b) Glass
(c) Stone pieces
(d) Paper
2. Combustion is a
(a) physical process
