Reflection Report on Group and Team Dynamics

Akshat Mishra (2023061)

The first session of the course began with a brief introduction of the professor and the
students. We all introduced ourselves and shared a unique attribute about ourselves. This was
a great icebreaker activity that helped us get to know each other better

The second session began with a presentation on Apple's success and teamwork, but it veered
off-topic, focusing more on Apple Music's hierarchy and responsibilities. Following this, we
watched a video lesson on teamwork and then formed groups to build boats out of paper,
each with a secret "troublemaker." These sessions taught us the distinction between groups
and teams, emphasizing that teams collaborate toward a shared goal, often with a leader and
clear structure. The boat-building exercise reinforced the importance of effective
communication, cooperation, flexibility, and adaptability in achieving collective objectives.
Overall, the sessions were informative and enjoyable, enhancing our understanding of
teamwork's significance in achieving success.

In the third session, our professor formed groups and presented us with an intriguing task.
We were asked to imagine ourselves in a desert survival scenario, provided with a list of 15
items. The challenge was to prioritize these items by individually assigning a rank from 1
(most important) to 15 (least important).

Each group member completed this ranking individually, and then we had to collectively
reach a consensus within our group regarding the item rankings. Subsequently, our professor
revealed the ideal solution, and our task was to calculate the discrepancies between our
individual rankings, as well as the differences between our group's rankings and the optimal
solution. The individuals with the lowest deviation from the correct answers and the groups
with the most accurate rankings emerged as the winners. Furthermore, the top-ranking and
bottom-ranking groups were required to provide explanations for their respective choices.
