I. Title
MATH AND SCIENCE MONTH CELEBRATION 2023
“TIMELAPSE: Accentuating the Eras of Math and Science Clubbing”

II. Rationale

Math and Science Month is a celebration with the primary goal of promoting the
importance of mathematics and science education. These subjects are the cornerstones of
human progress, playing a pivotal role in technological advancements, innovation, and problem-
solving. The celebration of Math and Science Month aims to create a platform for recognizing
their significance in our lives and inspiring a love for these disciplines among students,
educators, and the broader community.

One of the central reasons for celebrating Math and Science Month is to underscore the
critical role that mathematics and science play in education. These subjects provide essential
skills such as logical reasoning, problem-solving, and data analysis, which are vital for students'
academic and personal development. By dedicating a month to math and science, educational
institutions can focus on immersive learning experiences, interactive lessons, and hands-on
experiments that make these subjects more engaging and accessible to learners of all ages.

Math and Science Month serves as a catalyst for nurturing curiosity and innovation.
Through captivating experiments, science fairs, and mathematical challenges, students can
explore the wonders of the natural world and the intricacies of mathematics. This exposure not
only fosters a sense of wonder but also encourages students to ask questions, seek answers,
and eventually contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of scientific discovery and
technological breakthroughs.

In line with this, the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs or PSYSC launched the
official theme for this year’s celebration which is “TIMELAPSE: Accentuating the Eras of
Science Clubbing.” Moreover, this celebration is legally founded through the provision of
Proclamation 264 which declares September as “Science Month” signed by President Gloria
Macapagal-Arroyo in 2022.

With this, the Kinan-oan High School, in support to the above-mentioned premise and
legal basis will have the Math and Science Month Celebration which will feature various
activities that would help promote STEM education, foster curiosity, discover and develop new
skills, and recognizing the critical role of mathematics and science.

III. Objectives
The Math and Science Month Celebration will enable learners, teachers and the entire
school community to:
1. promote STEM education through various activities which highlights the importance of
math and science subjects in the societal progress and innovation;
2. foster interest and curiosity while engaging to relatable and enjoyable activities.
3. recognize achievements in math and science which led to breakthroughs and
innovation throughout history;
4. promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while engaging to the
activities;
5. bridge the gender gap in the field of math and science by inspiring girls/women to
pursue STEM careers;
6. fostering teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration as many real-world challenges
require a combination of scientific and mathematical knowledge;
7. enhancing global competitiveness by equipping learners with the knowledge, skills
and attitudes in math and science at par to the global demands.
