Uniformly Accelerated Motion QUICK REVIEW on

ACCELERATION! ACCELERATION Acceleration is the name we

give to any process where the velocity changes. Since velocity is a
speed and a direction, there are only two ways for you to
accelerate: change your speed or change your direction—or change
both. Formula for Speed and Velocity Uniformly Accelerated
Motion: Horizontal Dimension Uniformly Accelerated Motion:
Horizontal Dimension If a body maintains a constant change in its
velocity in a given time interval along a straight line, then the body
is said to have uniform acceleration. Uniformly Accelerated Motion:
Horizontal Dimension For example, a car that steadily increase its
velocity every 2 seconds, say from 35km/hr to 45km/hr then to 55
km/hr and so on. The change in velocity is constant at 10 km/hr for
every second Uniformly Accelerated Motion: Horizontal Dimension
Examples: A ball rolling down an incline. A person falling from a
plane. A bicycle on which you have applied the brakes. A ball
dropped from the top of a ladder. A toy baby bottle released from
the bottom of a bathtub Important Units Velocity= m/s Distance=

Displacement SAMPLE PROBLEM 1) An airplane accelerates from
rest on a runway at 5.50m/s² for 20.25s until it finally takes off the
ground. What is the distance covered before takeoff? Given a=5.50
m/s² t=20.25 s vi =0m/s² Solution Formula: d = vi t + ½at² d=(0)
(20.25s)+1/2(5.50m/s²)(20.25s)² = (0) + ½ (5.50m/s²)(410.06s²) =
½ (2255.33m) = 1127.67 m SAMPLE PROBLEM 2) From rest. A
jeepney accelerates uniformly over a time of 3.25 seconds and
covers a distance of 15 meters. Determine the acceleration of the
jeepney. Given d = 15 m t = 3.25 s vi = 0m/s² a = ? SAMPLE
PROBLEM 3) An airplane accelerates down a runway at 3.20 m/s²
for 32.8 s until it finally lifts off the ground. Determine the distance
travelled before take off. SAMPLE PROBLEM 4) A race car
accelerates uniformly from 18.5 m/s to 46.1 m/s in 2.47 seconds.
Determine the acceleration of the car and distance travelled.
