ABSTRACT

In a time when technology is quickly accessible by everyone, regular businesses are opting to

undergo a digital transformation to vary the way they operate to deliver more value to the

customer. In recent years, most of the business is predicated on technology. At present, with

the fast development of the information technology industry, most organizations and

industries are going towards technology advancements. Driving training school is one of the

areas that I have noticed to be improved with technology advancement. Automation of the

manual process manages the waste of human power and money by utilizing the resources

effectively. So, most of the people tend to automate this process to urge the utmost benefit.

Most of the automated systems contain only the registration and viewing some records within

the system. The proposed system includes automated scheduling, vehicle tracking, and a

learning portal with an online payment facility with a feature-rich web-based system.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Overview

In recent years, technology has become the foundation of most businesses, leading to a surge

in automation across various industries (Sravanthi.Gandu et al., 2023). This trend is

particularly noticeable in Gusau, where many organizations are transitioning from manual to

automated systems. One area that stands out is driving schools, where managing information

and scheduling learners can be challenging with a manual system.

The difficulties of handling data and allocating time slots to learners using a manual system

have been experienced first-hand. Moreover, managing multiple students simultaneously,

tracking their progress, and handling daily data is a significant challenge for driving schools

that still use manual systems.

These challenges have motivated the implementation of a sophisticated, automated web-

based solution for De-Law driving schools in Gusau, aiming to maximize benefits and

efficiency.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

In the era of accessible technology, traditional businesses are undergoing digital

transformation to enhance their operations and deliver more value to customers. This applies

to all businesses, from large enterprises to small retail shops (Deogaonkar, 2023). However,

some businesses, like driver training institutes, are hesitant to embrace this tech-driven

culture.

Currently, numerous driver training institutes operate nationwide, but only a few have opted

for digital transformation. The majority still relies on manual processes. Different types of

users, such as workers and students, seek training at various times. Scheduling a driving

lesson is inconvenient as it typically requires multiple phone calls for confirmation.

There’s no follow-up system to check if trainees attend their scheduled slots, making progress

tracking solely dependent on the instructor’s memory. Without a reliable way to track a

training vehicle’s real-time location, trainees must gather at a designated location and wait

their turn, leading to inefficiencies.

The absence of a digital portal for managing learning resources makes the process time-

consuming and costly for both parties. Additionally, the lack of online payment infrastructure

necessitates multiple trips to the institute for fee payment, adding to the inconvenience.

1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study

This study aims to design and implement an online driving school management system for

De-Law Driving School Gusau.

The objectives of the study are to:

i. analyse the current manual driving school management system to identify its key

requirements and potential challenges.

ii. design an online driving school system for De-Law driving school.

iii. develop the proposed system in II above.

iv. test the developed system.

1.4 Significance of the Study

This study aims to identify and analyse the current system’s issues, propose solutions to these

problems, and understand the requirements for future systems by studying the management

process. The final goal is to develop and organize requirements for the future system. The

significance of this study lies in its potential to revolutionize driving schools’ operations,

particularly in Gusau. This can be achieved by enhancing efficiency through the transition

from manual to automated systems, improving user experience by implementing an online

driving school management system, optimizing resource utilization through automation, and

saving costs by reducing inefficiencies. The online system also offers scalability for growth

and sets a precedent for technological advancement in traditionally manual industries.

Furthermore, the research contributes to the field of technology-driven solutions for

traditional industries.

1.5 Scope and Limitations of the Study

The proposed system is designed to address the following areas:

i. User Registration: New users can securely create profiles.

ii. Management of Entities: Authorized users can manage information about vehicles,

students, and instructors.

iii. Scheduling: The system helps schedule driving lessons based on instructor availability

and student preferences.

iv. Learning Portal: Students have access to learning resources, practice tests, and

progress tracking.

v. Payments: Students can pay online for lessons and services.

vi. Reporting: Administrators can access reports on lesson completion, instructor

performance, and revenue.

The proposed system also presents the following limitations:

i. Internet Dependency: The system needs a stable internet connection.

ii. Security: Despite security measures, the system could be vulnerable to cyber threats.

Regular monitoring and updates are needed.

iii. Technical Requirements: Users need compatible devices and browsers. Some users

may face compatibility issues.

iv. Training and Support: Users may need training and support to use all features.

Resources for this should be planned.

v. Scalability: The system is designed for De-Law Driving School in Gusau, but may

need updates as the business grows or needs change.

Mock Payment Logic: The system's payment processing functionality lacks real payment

logic since it operates within a locally hosted environment. While the system facilitates

online payment processing, it does not connect to real payment gateways or banking systems

to complete actual transactions.
