Small Group Lesson

TO WHOM IT IS ADDRESSE
This is a 15 minute lesson designed either for one-to-one or small groups of students. It is suitable
for students of all ages and abilities

WHAT’S INVOLVE
• 2 different songs and backing tracks (Rock style and Funk style)
• 3 different guitar parts (melody, rhythm, arpeggio)
• Tablature notation
• Basic notation used (time signature of 44, basic time values, stave and treble clef)

SUBJECTS COVERED & ACHIEVEMENT


SUBJECT ACHIEVEMENTS
✴ Play the song together ➡Express themselves in a musical context,
play music with others
➡Play the song over a real accompaniment,
with other instruments involved (drums, bass,
keys)
➡Learn different styles and genres
➡Understand the role of a guitar player/guitar
and other instruments in a band/music
context.

‣ Rhythm ➡Develop a good sense of rhythm


➡Learn how to accompany others
➡Learn new chords
➡Learn new time values and practice rhythm
patterns.

‣ Melody ➡Learn new scales and simple riffs/melodies,


improving their technique.

‣ Arpeggio ➡Learn new ways to accompany others


➡Learn new techniques of rhythm guitar.
‣ Sight-reading ➡Improve their sight-reading.

They take turns, so every student practices each guitar part


Every guitar part is interchangeable with the others (Ex. Melody 1 + Rhythm 2 + Arpeggio 2).
Students can try different combinations, and explore new sounds
Students can practice at home with the backing tracks, or use the songs to play with friends
Using backing tracks it is a way to get students involved during lessons, so they will be engaged
when they practice at home.
