Instructions for our Adopt A Succulent Event

1. Grab your cute baby plant and give it a little kiss and a name
a. I named mine Steven, but you can name yours whatever you want
2. Figure out what type of plant you have (if you got this instruction sheet from next to your
plant, you got an Echeveria)
a. Echeveria come in many varieties, but in general, if the leaves are fat and waxy
and go in concentric circles or spirals around the center, it’s an Echeveria.
b. It should look like this:

3. Find your plant a happy little home


a. Echeveria like to live somewhere with a lot of bright sunshine. They are great
plants to put on your windowsill
4. Give your plant a drink
a. Echeveria are desert plants and hold a months’ worth of water in their fat leaves.
They like to be watered every 2-4 weeks, more often in the summer, less often in
the winter.
b. Bring your pot over to the sink and pour water over it until all the soil is wet and
water comes out the bottom of the pot. Wait for the pot to stop leaking and put it
back in its happy place.
i. Make sure there is no standing water in the pot around an hour after you
water. That can cause the roots to rot.
c. Don’t worry if the soil feels dry to the touch, Echeveria like that.
5. Repot your plant if you want
a. It is recommended to repot your Echeveria every year or so to help him keep
growing into a bigger and better plant.
b. If you do this, remember to get a pot just slightly bigger than your current one,
and try to get one with drain holes.

has multiple stems and grows upward, not flat on the ground, it’s Sedum.

a. Sedum are desert plants and hold a months’ worth of water in their fat leaves. They like

b. Bring your pot over to the sink and pour water over it until all the soil is wet and water
comes out the bottom of the pot. Wait for the pot to stop leaking and put it back in its

a. Panda Plants have longer pointed leaves. They are thick and velvety to the touch.
Panda Plants have slightly ragged edges on their leaves that are tipped with a soft
brown color, which is how they get their name.

a. Newly planted seeds like to live somewhere with a lot of bright sunshine. They
are great plants to put on your windowsill
2. Plant your seeds! Fill the pot up a little over halfway with soil, sprinkle your seeds in, and
cover with soil.
3. Give your plant a drink
a. Bring your pot over to the sink and pour water over it until all the soil is wet and
water comes out the bottom of the pot. Wait for the pot to stop leaking and put it
back in its happy place.
i. Make sure there is no standing water in the pot around an hour after you
water. That can cause the roots to rot.
b. Make sure to water it about once per week.

Useful tips, tricks, and suggestions

1. Decorating your succulent’s new home is always fun! You can use acrylic paint or
Sharpies to decorate your pot, as these items are easily accessible and will last on the
pot’s surface.
