Materials:

 Cardboard or foam board

 Markers
 Scissors
 Ruler
 Glue
 A cube-shaped object (e.g., a small box)

Instructions:

1. Measure and Cut:

o Measure the sides of the cube-shaped object to determine the dimensions for your
dice.
o Cut out six square pieces of cardboard or foam board to match these dimensions.
2. Label the Sides:
o Using a marker, label each side of the cardboard squares with a binary number.
Start with 0 and increase the value on each side, ensuring you label all six sides.
For example, one die could have the following labels: 0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101.
3. Assemble the Dice:
o Apply glue to one side of each cardboard square.
o Carefully attach the squares to the sides of the cube-shaped object, ensuring they
are aligned correctly.
o Allow the glue to dry completely.
4. Decorate (Optional):
o You can decorate your dice with stickers, paint, or other embellishments to make
them more visually appealing.

Tips:

 To make the dice more durable, you can laminate the cardboard squares before
assembling them.
 If you don't have a cube-shaped object, you can create a cube by folding a piece of
cardboard into six equal squares.
 For added challenge, create dice with larger binary numbers or even different bases (e.g.,
octal, hexadecimal).

Using Binary Number Dice

Binary number dice can be used in various games and activities to help students understand and
practice the concept of binary numbers. Here are a few ideas:

1. Binary Addition and Subtraction:

 Roll and Add: Each player rolls the dice and adds the binary numbers together. The
player with the highest sum wins.
 Roll and Subtract: Players roll the dice and subtract the smaller binary number from the
larger one. The player with the largest difference wins.

2. Binary Bingo:

 Create a bingo card with a grid of binary numbers.

 Call out binary numbers, and players mark them on their cards.
 The first player to get a line (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) wins.

3. Binary Conversions:

 Roll and Convert: Players roll the dice and convert the binary number to decimal. The
first player to correctly convert the number wins.
 Conversion Relay Race: Divide the class into teams. Each team member rolls the dice
and converts the binary number to decimal. The first team to complete all conversions
correctly wins.

4. Binary Puzzles:

 Create puzzles that involve binary numbers, such as binary mazes or word searches.
 Students can use the dice to help them solve the puzzles.

5. Creative Activities:

 Binary Art: Students can create art using binary numbers, such as binary-coded patterns
or binary-based color palettes.
 Binary Stories: Students can write stories or poems that incorporate binary numbers or
binary concepts.
