Teaching Interests:
My teaching interests align closely with my research expertise, encompassing a broad range
of topics within digital audio and speech processing, deep learning, machine learning, artificial
intelligence, signal estimation and detection, and digital signal processing. These areas are
not only central to the ongoing advancements in technology but also critical for students who
aspire to contribute to the future of AI and audio technology. I am particularly passionate
about teaching the following courses. Fortunately, I have taught these courses both to
undergraduate and postgraduate (MS/Ph. D) students.
1. Digital Audio and Speech Processing: This course would cover fundamental and advanced
topics related to the processing of audio signals, with a focus on real-world applications such
as speech enhancement, recognition, and synthesis. I aim to provide students with both
theoretical knowledge and practical skills, emphasizing hands-on experience with tools and
techniques used in industry.
2. Deep Learning: A course on deep learning would explore the architecture, training, and
application of deep neural networks. I would emphasize how these networks can be used in
various domains, including image recognition, natural language processing, and speech
processing. My goal would be to guide students from foundational concepts to state-of-the-
art practices in deep learning.
3. Machine Learning: This course would cover the broad field of machine learning, including
supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. I would focus on providing students
with a solid understanding of the algorithms and techniques that underpin modern AI, along
with practical applications in different domains.
4. Introduction to AI: An introductory course on AI would provide a comprehensive overview
of artificial intelligence, covering its history, fundamental concepts, and current trends. This
course would be designed to be accessible to students from various disciplines, giving them
the foundational knowledge to pursue more specialized AI topics.
5. Signal Estimation and Detection: This course would delve into the theory and methods
used in the detection and estimation of signals in noisy environments. I would focus on both
classical and modern techniques, emphasizing their application in communications, radar, and
audio processing.
6. Digital Signal Processing (DSP): A DSP course would cover the essential concepts and
methods for processing digital signals, including filtering, Fourier analysis, and time-
frequency analysis. I would aim to equip students with the tools needed to analyze and
manipulate signals in various applications, from telecommunications to biomedical
engineering.
Teaching Experience:
Throughout my academic career of 16 years, I have had the opportunity to teach and
mentor students across various levels, from undergraduate to graduate courses
(MS/PhD). My teaching experience includes:
Lecturing: I have taught several core engineering courses including Digital and Audio
Processing using Deep earning (Postgraduate PhD), Introduction to AI (undergraduate),
Machine Learning (Postgraduate), where I have developed and delivered class lectures
that bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications. My approach involves using
real-world examples to illustrate complex ideas, making them more accessible to students.
Curriculum Development: I have been involved in designing course curricula (since
2014 as a member of the BOS) that align with current industry needs and technological
advancements. This includes integrating the latest research findings into course materials
and ensuring that students are exposed to cutting-edge tools and techniques.
Mentoring and Supervision: I have supervised numerous student projects and theses
(undergraduate and Postgraduate including MS and Ph.D), particularly in areas related
to speech processing, deep learning, and AI. My mentoring approach is to guide students
in applying theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems, fostering their critical
thinking and problem-solving skills.
Workshops and Seminars: I have conducted workshops and seminars on topics such as
deep learning and digital audio processing, Latex Programing aimed at both students and
professionals. These sessions are designed to provide intensive, hands-on training,
allowing participants to gain practical experience with the tools and techniques discussed.
Teaching Philosophy:
My teaching philosophy is centered on three core principles: engagement, application, and
growth.
1. Engagement: I believe that effective teaching begins with engaging students and
sparking their curiosity. My approach is to create an interactive learning environment
where students feel encouraged to ask questions, participate in discussions, and
explore new ideas. I use a variety of teaching methods, including problem-based
learning, case studies, and collaborative projects, to keep students actively involved in
their learning process.
2. Application: I am committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice. I strive
to ensure that students not only understand the theoretical foundations of the subjects
I teach but also know how to apply this knowledge to solve real-world problems. This
is particularly important in fields like digital audio and speech processing, where
practical skills are essential. I incorporate hands-on projects, lab sessions, and industry
case studies into my courses, providing students with opportunities to apply their
learning in meaningful ways.
3. Growth: I view teaching as a partnership between the instructor and the students,
where both parties are continuously learning and growing. I encourage students to
take ownership of their learning journey, fostering a mindset of lifelong learning. I
also seek feedback from students to continually improve my teaching methods and
materials. My goal is to help students develop not only the technical skills needed in
their fields but also the critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability required to thrive
in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
