METHODOLOGY

CONCEPTUALIZATION OF THE STUDY

Figure 1 shows the conceptual framework while figure 2 shows the conceptual design. In

figure 1, input indicates the required expertise for the intended project. People skilled in a

variety of trades, such as planning, welding, and construction. In order to construct the design,

the necessary tools, equipment, and resources, as well as the necessary tools, equipment and

resources, as well as the necessary amount of money, are required.

Taking all these factors into account, the project resulted into the construction of the

Vermi composting facilities capable for accommodating 1kg of Vermi worms necessary for

producing a large amount of Vermi manure for 1 month. This study will aid and improve

agricultural practices as well as the efficient use of organic resources.

STRUCTURE COMPONENTS ( sa ppt pa butang ko sang components)

a. Shed- The shed serves as a controlled environment for vermicomposting operations. It helps
regulate factors such as temperature, humidity, and light exposure, which can influence the
activity and well-being of the worms. Controlling these environmental variables ensures optimal
conditions for the worms' digestion and decomposition processes, leading to efficient
composting.
b. Vermi Bed- refers to a specific type of vermicomposting setup that utilizes a structure made of
concrete for housing and managing worms during the composting process. Instead of using
traditional containers or bins made of materials like plastic or wood, a concrete vermi bed is
constructed using concrete walls or blocks to create a designated area for the worms.
c. Vermi Storage Drum- Once the worms have processed the organic waste and converted it into
vermicompost, the finished product is collected and stored in the vermi storage drum. The vermi
storage drum provides a convenient and organized way to store the nutrient-rich compost until
it's ready for use. Vermicompost can be used as a soil amendment, potting mix additive, or
organic fertilizer for plants, providing essential nutrients and improving soil structure.
d. Water and Feed Storage Drum- The water and feed storage drum serve as a reservoir for
supplying water and additional organic material to the vermi bed. Maintaining proper moisture
levels is crucial for the health and productivity of the worms. The storage drum holds water that
can be periodically added to the vermi bed to keep the bedding material moist but not
waterlogged.

STRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The figure below shows the development of the Vermi composting system. The

project planning and Vermi composting system design are the first steps in the process,

then canvassing of materials. After obtaining materials, construction, and cultivating

vermi red wigglers for a month, the harvesting process comes to an end.

DESIGN AND CONCEPT CONSIDERATION

The design of the slurry separator machine was based on the following consideration:

1. The availability of materials locally to reduce the cost of production and

maintenance of the vermi composting system.

2. The design of Vermi composting system was developed through analyzing the

environmental requirements, needs, and for the growth of vermi red wigglers

worm for high vermi cast production.

3. The engineering concept and design will be considered

4. The dimensions and components of the vermi composting bin were determined

in order to complete the design so that the structure give a good environment to

the growth and to the production of vermi cast.

Material consideration for the Vermi composting

1. Cattle dung is collected from cow shelters.

2. The dung is kept for about 7–10 days to let it cool.

3. Beds/rows of dung and crop residues/leaves, etc. are made about 1 m wide, 75

cm high andwith a distance of 75 cm between two rows.

4. In the beds/rows, crop waste such as leaves, straw etc. is layered alternatively

with the dungto thus make a height of about 75 cm. The beds are kept as such

for 4–5 days to cool.

5. Water is sprinkled to let the compostable matter cool down.

6. Earthworms are put on the top of the manure row/bed. About 1 kg worms in a

metre-long
manure row are inoculated.
