3.2. DATA COLLECTION

A well structured questionnaire was administered to 100 goat farmers to

collect the following primary data: gender (X1), age (X2) level of
education (X3), availability of market for goat(X4), Breeding system
practiced (X5), Modern reproductive Technologies (Artificial Insemination,
Modern heat detection, Eostrus synchronization) (X6), Breeds of goat
reared (X7), access to veterinary services (X8) , Cost of production in naira
per year (X9), Access to loan (X10), No. of goats produced in a year (Y1)
and income from sales of goats in naira per year (Y2).

3.3 ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUE

Specific objective (i) will be analysed using descriptive statistics including

means.

Specific objective (ii) will be analysed by Ordinary Least Squares (OLS)

regression with the following model.

Y = f(X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, X8, X9, X10, X11, X12, X13, X14) + e

Where

Y1 = No. of Herd size

Y2 = Income from sales of goats in naira per year

While,

X1 = Gender

X2 = Age of the farmer

X3 = Years of experience

X4 = Level of education

X5 = Availability of market for goats

X6 = Breeds of goats reared

X7 = Breeding system practised

X8 = Modern Reproductive Technologies Practised

X9 = Cost of production (mature goats)

X10 = Access to veterinary services

X11 = Availability of market

X12 = Financial income of the farmer (Naira per month)

X13 = Cost of production (Naira per year)

X14 = Access to loan

X15 = Source of loan

X16 = Household size

X17 = Diseases affecting the goats

X18 = Vaccination of the goats

X19 = Source of water

X20 = Mating system practised

X21 = Goat production system practised

X22 = Availability of feed

X23 = Type of feed given to the goats

X24 = Practice of creep feeding on the young goats (kids)

All analyses will be done using IBM SPSS Statistics (2015).

The four functional forms of the model are:

Linear

Y = bo + b1x1 + b2x2 + b3x3 + b4x4 + b5x5 + b6x6 + b7x7 + b8x8 +

b9x9 + b10x10 + e

Double log

LogY = bo + b1logx1 + b2logx2 + b3logx3 + b4logx4 + b5logx5 +

b6logx6 + b7logx7 + b8logx8 + b9logx9 + b10logx + e
LogY = bo + b1logx1 + b2logx2 + b3logx3 + b4logx4 + b5logx5 +
b6logx6 + b7logx7 + b8logx8 + b9logx9 + b10logx10 + e

Semi-log

Y = bo + b1logx1 + b2logx2 + b3logx3 + b4logx4 + b5logx5 + b6logx6 +

b7logx7 + b8logx8 + b9logx9 + b10logx10 + e

Exponential

LogY = bo + b1x1 + b2x2 + b3x3 + b4x4 + b5x5 + b6x6 + b7x7 + b8x8

+ b9x9 + b10x10 + e
