Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Guide

Objectives

 To gather in-depth qualitative data on the effectiveness of the work immersion program.
 To identify gaps and areas for improvement in the current training program for cookery students.
 To obtain diverse perspectives from students, instructors, and industry partners.

Participants

Students: 6-8 cookery students who have completed the work immersion program.

Instructors: 4-6 cookery instructors involved in the training program.

Industry Partners: 4-6 employers or mentors who have supervised students during their work
immersion.

Structure

Introduction: 10 minutes

Discussion: 60-90 minutes

Wrap-Up: 10 minutes

Audio recorder (with consent)

Notepads and pens

Introduction (10 minutes)

Welcome and Introduction:

Welcome participants and thank them for their time.

Introduce the moderator and note-taker.

Explain the purpose of the focus group discussion.

Outline the structure of the session and the expected duration.

Ground Rules:

Emphasize confidentiality and the importance of respecting each other’s opinions.

Encourage open and honest discussion.

Explain that there are no right or wrong answers.

Consent:
Obtain verbal consent for audio recording.

Distribute and collect signed consent forms.

Industry Partners:

How would you describe the preparedness of students for their work immersion roles?

What skills or attributes did students demonstrate strongly during their work immersion?

2. Skill Development and Training Needs (20-30 minutes)

Students:
