Fabric #1: Alma Velvet- Blue (Found on Kravet)

SKU BF10827.660.0

● What is the fiber content? The content is 100% viscose.

● Could you tell how durable the fabric is? How could you tell or not
tell? Hint: are there double rubs listed? The website has listed it as high
durability.
● Do you think the color will be exactly as it appears on their website?
How about the texture? I feel it is unlikely the color will be exactly the same
as the website since it can vary based on your screen settings and such, however, I
believe it will be close. I feel like the texture will show up more in person.
● What is one additional item of information on Kravet's site versus
Joann's regarding the fabrics? On the Kravet website, it provides the
country of manufacture (Belgium in this case). It also notes how it held up in an
abrasion test.
● What was challenging or frustrating about searching for fabric this
way? This method for choosing a fabric is hard since I was not able to feel the
fabric or see the true color. I might be disappointed later when I get the real
fabric and it is not as anticipated. Also, I have to log in for pricing so I can’t
browse well without making an account. (Even though I assume if I was really in
the field, I would have this information).
● Can you tell what the construction of the fabric is? If it is patterned, is
it printed on the face or woven into the structure (jacquard)? Is it a
pile weave? Hint: On Kravet's site, you can search by "Type". You can
also click on the fabric and zoom in. The site mentioned that the fabric was
velvet. It seems like the pattern is woven in with the different colors in the fabric.

Any other thoughts?

The light reflection on the picture for this velvet gave a great example of how this fabric
will act in a certain light and environment. This is good since you can see all the
different values and shades that comes out of this material. The drawback is knowing
how to match the light to et a simliiar affect. It is hard to know how this material will
look in certain lighting or what lighting was used in the picture.

Fabric #2: Elana Garbrielle Multi-Purpose Décor Fabrics

in Seaglass
Item # 19152487

● What is the fiber content? The fabric is 100% cotton.

● Could you tell how durable the fabric is? How could you tell or not
tell? Hint: are there double rubs listed? The website said it has a durability
of 24,000 double rubs. This should mean the fabric would last for around 8
years. This seems pretty durable, especially if it is use occasionally.
This fabric was found on JoAnn website.
● What was challenging or frustrating about searching for fabric this
way? On the Joann website it was nice since it broke down the category of fabric,
however it didn’t list the type of fabric upfront. If the client wanted a specific
fabric, this would make it pretty ahrd to find it.
● Can you tell what the construction of the fabric is? If it is patterned, is
it printed on the face or woven into the structure (jacquard)? Is it a
pile weave? The type listed on the website is upholstery cotton. From the look
of it, it is a plain weave with different colors incorporated into the fabric.

Any other thoughts?

The online selection helped since the pictures give to scale and a zoomed in image
showing what the texture looks like blown up from a small swatch helps give a better
understanding if this look and feel in whatever project this would be used in is very
helpful since there are more selections online readily available to order without the
complete drawback of knowing how the texture will act and feel in the environment it is
being placed in. The woven texture is seen so well and the scale at the bottom of the
picture matched up to give me a sense of how large the fibers are.

Name which one of the fabrics you will be using in your Client Project. Why
did you choose this particular fabric?

I have decided to use both, but I will focus on the blue velvet for this question. I chose
the blue velvet since it would match a new piano stool and runner on the piano well for a
new black piano. My parents have had a light tan upright piano for all of my life and the
staining is starting to look really dirty and worn in many places. Changing to a new
piano with blue velvet would be a nice upgrade, and they have mentioned liking the look
before. The blue fabric will match the look of the room well.
