CONTROL SYSTEM ENGINEERING

Time : 3 Hours ] [ Max. Marks : 60

Instructions to Candidates :—
(1) All questions are compulsory.
(2) All questions carry marks as indicated.
(3) Due credit will be given to neatness.
(4) Assume suitable data wherever necessary.

1. (a) For the block diagram representation of the system shown in fig Q. 1a,
find an overall transfer function C(s)/R(s).

5(CO 1)

(b) Obtain the electarical analogous network for the system shown below.

5(CO 1)

CXDW/RW-18 / 5060 Contd.

2. (a) The system shown in fig, has a rate feedback. Determine the peak overshoot
in the absence of the rate feedback. Find the value of rate feedback
coefficient α which will decrease the peak overshoot to 10%.

G(s) = ——— and H(s) = αs
s(s+4) 5(CO 2,3)

(b) A second order system has poles at (–1+j1) and (–1–j1). At what time
the unit step response will reach the first, second and third peak overshoot.
5(CO 2,3)

β
3. (a) For the system shown in fig. G(s) H(s) = ———————. Find the
s(s2+αs+16)
relation between α and β so that the system response is oscillatory. Also
find the frequency of oscillation.

5(CO 4)

CXDW/RW-18 / 5060 2 Contd.

(b) A partial Routh array for a feedback system is shown below. Find the
characteristics equation of the system, if it known the next row corresponding
to s1 is a vanishing row. Also find the number of roots on the RHP,
LHP and on the jw axis.
