1-1 Checking for Axial Stress

1-1-a Determine the actual Axial Stress (f A )

f A = P/A = 7.98 MPa

1-1-b Determine the Allowable Axial Stress (F A )

Slenderness ratio: L/r = 1.57(1000)/15.27 = 102.82

2 1/2
C = [2π E / Fy] = 125.66
Since L/r < C : therefore;
2 2
F A = [ 1- (L/r) /2C ] Fy/Fs

Solving for Factor of Safety (Fs)

3 3
F S = 5/3 + 3 (L/r)/8C - (L/r) /8C
FS = 1.97 MPa

2 2
Subst: F A = [ 1- (L/r) /2C ] Fy/Fs
FA = 84.32 MPa > fA

Therefore; design section is safe for Axial Stress!

Recommendation:
use 2-50mmx150mmx1.2mmt C-Purlins for Rafter

1-2 Checking for Tensile Stress

1-2-a Determine required Gross Area (A G )

A G = T/0.60Fy
2
AG = 31.23 mm

Solving for Effective Net Area (A N )

A N = T/0.50Fy
2
AN = 37.48 mm

The maximum permissible area stated by the AISC is 85% of the gross area of the section.
A MAX = 0.85 A (gross area)
2
A MAX = 690.97 mm
Since A MAX > A G , therefore; design section is safe for Tensile Stress!
Recommendation:
use 2-50mmx150mmx1.2mmt C-Purlins for Rafter

1-3-a Determine the actual Axial Stress (f A )
f A = P/A = 13.31 MPa

1-3-b Determine the Allowable Axial Stress (F A )

Slenderness ratio: L/r = 0.5(1000)/15.27 = 32.74

2 1/2
C = [2π E / Fy] = 125.66
Since L/r < C : therefore;
2 2
F A = [ 1- (L/r) /2C ] Fy/Fs
Solving for Factor of Safety (Fs)
3 3
F S = 5/3 + 3 (L/r)/8C - (L/r) /8C
FS = 1.76 MPa

2 2
Subst: F A = [ 1- (L/r) /2C ] Fy/Fs
FA = 151.0120 MPa > fA
Therefore; design section is safe for Axial Stress!

Recommendation:
use 2- 50mmx50mmx6mmt Angle Bar for Diagonal & Vertical Members.

Design for Tensile Members : L50x50x6mmt

1-3-c Determine required Gross Area (A G )

A G = T/0.60Fy

The maximum permissible area stated by the AISC is 85% of the gross area of the section.
A MAX = 0.85 A (gross area)
2
A MAX = 483.65 mm
Since A MAX > A G , therefore; design section is safe for Tensile Stress!
Recommendation:
use 2- 50mmx50mmx6mmt Angle Bar for Vertical Members.
