1 INTRODUCTION
TECHNIP GERMANY is the EPC MANAGER for the Crystal Gas Plant Project.
The objective of the PROJECT is the construction of a Gas Plant for the injection and
withdrawal of natural gas in/from underground storage facility consisting of 4 salt caverns.
The PROJECT will be executed on the basis of an EPC-M (services) contract; TECHNIP
GERMANY provides services under EDF/CIT supervision, where EDF/CIT is acting as
OWNER’s engineer. The gas Plant will be owned and operated by Friedeburger
Speicherbetriebsgesellschaft mbH “Crystal”, a Joint Venture by EDF & EnBW.
2 PURPOSE
The scope of this specification is to define the general design and construction criteria as
well as the technical requirements for the Piping Standard Supports.

7 SUPPORT DESIGN
Lines with slope will be generally supported using pipe shoes from 100 mm to 300 mm
height trimmed to suit or shimmed to suit.
Carbon steel lines with non-critical fluids (PED fluid group 2) such as un-insulated utilities
shall rest directly on the structure or, in case of concrete supports, on an insert plate, i.e.
without any pipe shoe.
Insulated lines ≤ DN40 running on pipe racks or pipe ways shall be installed on shoes
anyway.
7.6 HANGER
Hanger shall be used for pipe supports if tensile stresses only are expected or where
resting supports are not applicable. Where the pipe is subject to movement at the
connection point, two hinges shall be provided to allow the hanger to follow such
movement.
The length of a hanger shall be at least 15 times the pipes horizontal movement.
Minimum hanger length may be halved provided there is an offset between the point of
connection of hanger to pipe and the point of connection to supporting structure, in the
opposite direction of excepted horizontal movement and of half its value.
In order to use hanger with lengths less than the minimum values given above, the
effect of vertical movement associated with hanger inclination shall be evaluated on a
case by case basis, in order to determine the effective force acting on the hanger and
the load variation on adjoining supports.
The bolt eyes of hanger shall be welded tight.
Hanger shall be adjustable when used with pipes having a diameter > DN50.
Safe loads for threaded hanger rods shall be based on the root area of the threads and
allowable stress of the material.
Hanger supply shall comply with 7041D 000 JSS 1383 001 “Rod & spring hangers”
Page 11 of
26
flexible supports shall be appreciably lower the first natural frequency of the piping
system.
Variable spring hangers shall be used when piping connected to equipment and structures
cannot withstand load variations and movements resulting from the use of rigid support.
The load variation of variable spring hangers shall not exceed 25% of estimated maximum
reaction.
Constant pipe supports shall be used when piping to equipment and structures cannot
withstand load variations and movements resulting from the use of variable spring
hangers. The effective travel of a constant support shall not be less than 130% of design
travel. In all cases the difference between effective and design travel shall not be less
than 20 mm.
The rules indicated in the paragraph relevant to the hangers shall, wherever applicable,
apply to variable and constant spring hangers as well.
Variable and constant spring support supply shall conform to 7041D 000 JSS 1383 001
“Rod & spring hangers”

9 MATERIALS
Piping supports materials shall be selected according to those listed in ASME B31.3
Appendix A or according to those foreseen in equivalent codes (DIN / EN).
Pipe supports shall be of materials suitable for the service conditions. Piping support
materials shall not be used at temperatures which are not backed by Design Codes giving
allowable stress value.
The design temperature of support members in direct contact with pipe wall shall be
assumed as equal to the temperature of the pipe-carried fluid. The design temperature
of support members not in direct contact with pipe and located outside line insulation
1
shall be assumed as equal to ambient temperature or /3 of the temperature of the pipe-
carried fluid, whichever is higher.
