Create bootable MacOS USB installer from Windows

• Download and install TransMac. https://www.acutesystems.com/tmsetup.zip

• Run TransMac and select "Settings" from the "Tools" menu.
• Make sure "Show hidden and system files" is selected.

• Download a version of MacOS installer from the Apple site: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102662#browser

Your choices are: Sierra 10.12, El Capitan 10.11, Yosemite 10.10, Mountain Lion 10.8, Lion 10.7
• Open the installer dmg in TransMac. Click on the dmg in the left pane and click the next folder.
• You will see a file called "InstallOS.pkg" or "InstallMacOSX.pkg" in the right pane. Right-click this file and select "Copy to". Save the
file to a folder on your PC.

• Rename the file with a ".dmg" extension (InstallMacOSX.pkg.dmg).

• Open this file in TransMac. Click on the dmg file and click the next folder.
• You should see files and folders in the right pane including a "BaseSystem.dmg" file and "Packages" folder. Right click these two items
and "Copy to" to copy to your PC.
• Close TransMac and attach your USB drive. Run TransMac as Administrator by right-clicking its icon and select "Run as Administrator".
• Your drive should show in the left pane. Right-click the USB drive and select "Restore with Disk Image".

• Make sure you want to restore this drive. Existing data will be overwritten. Click OK.
• Select the "BaseSystem.dmg" file you saved before by clicking the button in the edit box and click OK.
• The next window has an "Enlarge volume to drive size" checkbox. Select that box. Click OK to start the restore. This may take some time
depending on the speed of the USB drive.

• After restore is done, click the drive in the left pane and click the next folder. Find "System" in the left pane and click it, then click
"Installation".
• You should see a "Packages" file in the right pane. This is a broken link to the "Packages" folder we saved before. Delete the "Packages"
file by right-clicking and selecting "Delete".
• Right-click the right pane and select "Copy Here". Select the "Packages" folder you copied before. This copy may take a while depending
on the speed of the USB drive.
• Close TransMac and eject the USB drive. You should now have a working bootable MacOS installation USB drive.
• Put the drive in your Mac and power on while holding the Alt/Option key.
• Your Mac may have trouble booting from a MacOS version that is too old or too new. Try a different version if you run into trouble.
