ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

Title: - ENGLISH FEST 2024


Theme: - Language Evolution: Gen-Z and Literacy in the Digital Age
Proponents: - Senior High and TESDA Students
Date: - October 31, 2024
I. RATIONALE
In line with the upcoming English Festival on the 31st day of October 2024, which nurtures and acknowledges the
students' speaking, writing, and critical thinking abilities. This is to let students highlight and display their inner
passion and discover the talent within themselves. Hence, the English Festival 2024 is proposed to showcase their
various macro and critical thinking skills through literary and language contexts.

II. OBJECTIVES
This activity aims to:
a.) Encourage the senior high school and TESDA students to participate and showcase their speaking
and critical thinking skills;
b.) develop skills and competencies in language and literary events; and
c.) highlight students’ performance with confidence in different literary events.
III. DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITIES
1. Extemporaneous
An extemporaneous speech is a planned and prepared speech. It is usually delivered
with the help of short notes and a clear outline. There should be 1 representative per
strand. Each participant will be given a maximum of 5mins to deliver his/her speech.

2. Declamation
It is an artistic form of public speaking. It is a dramatic oration designed to present
through articulation, emphasis and gesture the full sense of the message being imparted.
There should be 1 representative per strand. Each participant will be given a maximum
of 5mins to deliver his/her speech.

3. Spellathon
It is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words,
usually with a varying degree of difficulty. There should be 1 participant in each strands
regardless of the grade level

MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES:
1. The topic shall be given five (5) minutes before performance.
2. The contestants shall be given five (5) minutes to prepare and five (5) minutes to deliver.
3. The style of the delivery shall be conversational, oratorical, or a combination of both.
4. After the deliberation of the members of the board of judges, the judge’s decision is final.

2. Declamation
It is an artistic form of public speaking. It is a dramatic oration designed to present through articulation, emphasis, and
gesture—the full sense of the message being imparted. There should be one (1) representative per team.
MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES:
1. Each team must have only one (1) participant.
2. Participants must submit a copy of their declamation piece deliverable in 5-7 minutes.
3. Timing begins on the first word and stops on the last word uttered. A one-point deduction from the overall score shall
be given every 30 seconds exceeding the time.
4. Each participant can choose their piece to be used during the contest.
5. The piece should be memorized. Notes and cue cards are not allowed during the contest.
6. Participants shall be in an appropriate costume and must use props whenever necessary.
7. All participants are deemed to accept and abide by the rules and mechanics of the contest.
8. Only three (3) student declaimers shall be awarded as 1st Placer, 2nd Placer, and 3rd Placer.

9. Upon submission of the results to the committee, the judge's decision shall be considered final and Irrevocable.
3. Spelling Bee
A competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying level of
difficulty. There should be two (2) participants in each team (male and female) regardless of the grade level.
MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES:
1. Each team should have two (2) participants and must be one female and one male.
2. There will be three levels namely: easy, average, and difficult rounds.
3. The easy round has ten (10) to be spelled, the average round has eight (8) words and the difficult round has five (5)
words.
4. Participants have 15 seconds to spell each word in the easy round, 20 seconds for the average round, and 30
seconds for the difficult round.
5. The game master will read the word and its description twice only.
6. Contestants must write each word after the “go” signal of the game master. A contestant who has started writing
without the "go" signal will be disqualified to answer for that specific turn until the next word is given.
7. All are qualified for easy, average, and difficult rounds. Only those who need to do a tiebreaker will proceed to the
clincher round.
8. In case of a tie after the difficult round, the contestants will proceed to the clincher round to determine the winner
for the place that they will be competing for. If the contestant reaches the clincher round, the contestant who writes
the correct spelling will get a point and will be determined the winner for the place that they will be competing for.
9. A contestant who has the highest point at the end of the difficult round will be determined CHAMPION

4. Quiz Bee
The quiz tests the student’s knowledge in various areas of English such as grammar and literature. It consists
of two (2) representatives per team. Questions may vary depending on the degree of difficulty.
MECHANICS AND GUIDELINES:
1. The competition is open to Senior High School and TESDA students enrolled in this institution.
2. Each team must have two (2) participants and must be male and female.
3. Questions will be divided into three rounds: Easy, Average, and Difficult.
Below are the corresponding number of items, points, and time allotment for answering the questions.

4. The questions will be presented via PowerPoint presentation and will be read twice by the quiz master.
5. All participants will have to wait for the signal from the quiz master before answering the questions.
Automatically, the time limit will begin with the word “GO” by the quizmaster.
6. When time is up, the participants will be asked to raise the boards to show their answers. Participants can
only show up and bring down their boards upon instruction from the quizmaster.
7. The quizmaster shall read and verify the group’s answer

5. Jazz Chant
Jazz chant is a poem that uses jazz rhythms which illustrate the natural stress and intonation patterns of a
speech in English. It provides an exciting way to improve your student's speaking and listening
comprehension skills while reinforcing the language structures of everyday situations. This activity requires a
minimum of 10 to a maximum of 15 participants.
MECHANICS AND CRITERIA:
1. Each team is given a 3-5 minutes to present. For every increment of one minute of overtime, 1 point will
be deducted from the group’s overall score.
1. Each team must present their piece.
2. Each must have a minimum of fifteen (15) participants.
3. Modified jazz chanting means that each team may creatively repeat certain words, lines, or sentences of
their piece.
4. Costumes and props are encouraged.
5. Contestants may bring and use their own materials for sound effects purposes.
6. The jazz chant presented must not touch on any sensitive issues on race, religion, Ideologies, or person.
2. Word Factory
Participants race against the clock to find as many words as possible in a grid of letters. There should be one (1)
representative per team.

3. Scrabble Tournament
Participants will engage in a friendly Scrabble competition, where players create words using letter tiles to
score points. There should be one (1) representative per team.
MECHANICS AND GUIDLINES:

4. Greek gods and goddesses Portrayal


Representatives of each team will portray designated Greek gods and goddesses. Each team will choose a
male and a female representative to portray.
