Two study guides will be coming home this week. The first one is for the States and Capitals quiz on Thursday, January 12th. The second guide is for our Simple Machines Assessment the following week on Thursday, January 19th. It is much more beneficial for your child to spend 15 minutes each night studying for the upcoming tests rather than trying to cram in the information the night before or by not studying at all. Literature Circles will begin on Tuesday of this week. The students will have until the following Tuesday (January 10th) to complete their reading and roles. Please check in with your child throughout this week and next to be sure they have completed their work and they are prepared to share in a meaningful way on Tuesday. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Warmly, Sandra Travers

Read Aloud Our current read aloud is called a Dog on His Own and came highly recommended by our very own Ryan M. After six names and six owners, canine K-10 doesnt trust humans. Back in the animal shelter again, he insists hes no stray, just independent. Along with two shelter dogs, he escapes, but freedom is fraught with complications, including finding food and a safe place to sleep. We look forward to hearing about his adventures. Social Studies We will be leaving the South Region this week looking at how the climate affects the people and economy of the area. The South Region states and capitals quiz will be Thursday, Jan. 12. Study materials were sent home before the break and will be send home again in Monday folders. Science Our investigation into the 6 Simple Machines will continue as we look at wheels and axles and the wedge this week. Please use the following site to review all 6 simple machines. http://www.beaconlearningcenter.com/WebLes sons/SimpleMachines/machines005.htm.
