Solution file

Answer No. 1:

To find the coefficient of quartile deviation (CQD):

1. Organize the Data:

First, organize the data in ascending order:
56, 57, 58, 60, 61, 63, 63, 65, 65, 65, 66, 67, 67, 67, 68, 72, 74, 76

2. Calculate Quartiles:
Median (Q2): Since there are 20 values, the median will be the average of the 10th and 11th
values.
Median (Q2) = 65 + 66/2 = 65.5

First Quartile (Q1): This is the median of the first half of the data.
First half: 56, 57, 58, 60, 61, 63, 63, 65, 65, 65

Q1 = 61 + 63/2 = 62

Third Quartile (Q3): This is the median of the second half of the data (values from position
11 to 20).
Second half: 66, 67, 67, 67, 68, 72, 74, 76
Q3 = 67 + 68/2 = 67.5

3. Calculate the Quartile Deviation:

Quartile Deviation = Q3 - Q1/2

Q.D = 67.5 - 62/2 = 2.75

4. Calculate the Coefficient of Quartile Deviation (CQD):

CQD = Quartile Deviation/Q2 ×100%

CQD = 2.75/65.5×100% = 4.21%
Therefore, the coefficient of quartile deviation is approximately 4.21%

Answer No. 2:

To calculate the coefficient of variation (CV) for the working hours data:

1. Calculate the Mean (Average):

X = Sum X/n
Summing the data:

Sum = 13 + 23 + 25 + 30 + 33 + 36 + 26 + 24 + 23 + 28 + 22 + 25 + 26 + 29 + 19 + 23 +
25 + 30 + 40 + 39 + 36 + 38 + 35 + 32 + 31 + 30 + 37 + 33 + 27 + 26 + 28 + 24

Sum X = 783

The number of values is, n = 32

Mean = 24.5

2. Calculate the Standard Deviation:

S.D. (S) = √variance

Variance = √sum (x - mean)2 / n

To find the variance:

Mean = 24.5
Calculate each squared deviation and sum up them:

Sum of Squared Deviations= 4497.5

Variance = 140.55

Standard Deviation:

Standard Deviation (S)= √140.55

= approx 11.86
3. Calculate the Coefficient of Variation (CV):

C.V. = S/Mean × 100%

= 48.4%

Therefore, the coefficient of variation is approximately 48.4%.
