Short Questions
1. Define statics
2. What are the characteristics of a force?
3. Define the resultant.
4. What is the law of transmissibility?
5. Describe the procedure to find the resultant of coplanar concurrent force system
6. Define couple with a neat sketch.
7. What do you mean by resolution of a force?
8. Explain concurrent force system?
9. Explain coplanar force system?
10. A force of 500 N is inclined at 450 to Y- axis then find the horizontal and vertical
component of the force.
11. Classify different types of force systems
12. State the parallelogram law of force.
13. What is a moment?

Problems
1. Determine the X and Y components of each of the force shown in the figure.1

Fig.1 Fig.2
2. The body on the incline shown in figure.2 is subjected to the vertical and horizontal forces
shown. Find the components of each force along X-Y axis oriented parallel and perpendicular
to the incline.

3. The body shown in figure.3 is acted upon by four forces. Determine the resultant.

4. A rocker arm shown in figure.4 has the moment of F about O balances that of P about O.
Find F.
5. Determine the resultant of a system of concurrent forces having the following magnitudes: P
=280N (12, 6, -4), T = 520N (-3, -4, 12); F = 270 N (6, -3, -6). The concurrence point of the
forces are at origin.
