HRMA 204: Recruitment and Selection
1. Give me an example of a time you had a conflict with a team member. How
did you handle it?
• Situation: During my senior high school days, there was a time that I had a
conflict with a team member on a Physical Education project. The project involved
creating a simple dance step (3-5 minutes) for a remix song and take a video of it
since it happened when there are no face-to-face classes due to the height of
pandemic. When roles were assigned, one of my team members volunteered to
choreograph the dance steps. Unfortunately, some of the steps she created are
quite difficult, making it hard for everyone in our group to learn them in time. This
difficulty threatened to delay our project. Our leader is not that great in
confrontational and does not want to talk directly to our choreographer.
• Task: When the tasks were distributed, I was assigned the role of video editor.
This meant I was responsible for the final output of our PE Project. Since video
editing is a time-consuming and need to be creative in linking the clips of our
videos, any project delays would have put a burden on me and will rush me in
finishing it.

• Action: Since our team leader shared her concerns with me, explaining that
some of the steps were a little too hard for the team to memorize, I decided to
approach the choreographer myself since our leader does not want to do it I
cannot stand doing nothing since I am at risk in rushing our project. I prepared my
thoughts and words beforehand to ensure a better conversation.
• Result: In the end, I eventually convinced her to change some of the steps.
though I knew and felt she liked her original choreography and gives me a lot of
reasons before she agreed. I told her that simple steps would allow everyone to
learn them faster, which would benefit the entire project, especially the video
editing stage. I also mentioned how our leader felt about the difficulty, but she was
not comfortable voicing it directly to her. As a result, our choreographer changes it
to simple steps, and we met our deadline. As the editor, I wasn't pressured to rush
the final product, and we submitted the project on time.
• Task: My task in that situation was to prepare for the welcome remarks. This
involved preparing my voice, making eye contact with the graduates, parents, and
faculty members, and most importantly, crafting a heartfelt and engaging welcome
speech.

3. Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work. How did you resolve the
problem, and what did you learn from your mistake?
• Situation: During my high school years, like many students, I often crammed my
studying for exams until the last days. This was especially challenging because I
was in a competitive Special Science Class (SSC) where creativity and timely
project were highly valued. Unfortunately, this last-minute studying habit
sometimes resulted in me oversleeping on exam days, like the time I woke up an
hour late during our 1st Day of examinations.
• Task: The goal was to be mentally and physically prepared for the exams and to
complete all activities and requirements on time. However, on the day of the

exam, I woke up an hour late. This meant I had to rush to get to the school for my
subject and catch up on the missed exam for my subject.
• Action: I rushed in preparing my stuff and lunch and I wrote a formal letter
signed by my mother explaining the situation honestly. I focused on other tasks,
which resulted in studying late and causing me to oversleep. With the letter, I
approached my three teachers and pleaded with them to allow me to take the
exams.
