If you asked random people from different countries whether tourism

has negative or positive impacts on the environment, none of the

answers would most likely prevail since their opinion will be based on
their personal experience from travels.
Tourism and environment are important, and has a controversial
relationship, that needs to be in a perfect balance to benefit each other.
Beautiful landscapes and unique scenery are the main drivers of tourism
into an area. However, too many tourists visit a natural site, inhabitants
and the environment will suffer from negative impacts, which easily
overweigh all the benefits due to exceeding the natural carrying
capacity of a place.
On the other hand, when the number of visitors is balanced with respect
for the natural environment, tourism has great potential in supporting or
even starting out new conservation projects that protect unique areas
and benefit local residents.
According to green tumble, Sustainable tourism is the only way to go
forward if the industry wants to grow. But throughout the last couple
decades, tourism has been already growing and has introduced many
new places to foreign visitors. In some regions, having the option of
welcoming paying guests, tourism has brought many positive impacts on
the environment. Let’s see their examples.

[POSITIVE IMPAAAAAK]
#1 Awareness raising and first-hand experience – Tourism is the
best tool to raise awareness of environmental values.
#2 Tourism for skills learning and education - This is a special side
of tourism but plays also an important role in positive impacts of tourism
on the environment.
#3 Support of conservation and biodiversity protection activities –
activities that are done in a certain place while protecting the
environment.
#4 Protection of endangered species - The remaining spots that are
still a home to this disappearing world are often turn to nature reserves
and protected areas. This ensures better safety for endangered species
that inhabit them.
#5 Prevention of illegal trade and exploitation- local communities
needs to protect what they have in order to protect the environment and
attract tourists.
#6 Finance and job opportunities- Tourism creates decent work
opportunities and economic growth even in rural or remote areas.
#7 Adoption of sustainable practices and new legislation- More
funds available to a region mean better possibilities to improve
infrastructure and services. Modernization of infrastructure goes hand in
hand with a transition to sustainable technologies and seeking of long-
term solutions that will benefit people and the local environment.

Tourism and the environment could go well together

And I’m going to end my presentation with my quote.

“Sustained environment means healthy tourism. Healthy tourism means
happy people and happy people means happy world” THANK YOU.

[NEGATIVE IMPAKKK]
Tourism puts enormous stress on local land use, and can lead to soil
erosion, increased pollution, natural habitat loss, and more pressure on
endangered species. These effects can gradually destroy the
environmental resources on which tourism itself depends.
Disadvantages of Tourism
 Tourists' Negligence of the Environment- many tourists are
more concerned about the aesthetic of their pictures and fame
without even thinking about the environment. Just for example the
incident happened in clevland that took place on September 27,
1986 which they make 1.5 million balloons to break the Guinness
world record. And these negligence results in major pollution and
also becomes a problems for traffic and nearby airports.

 Exploitation of Local Culture- Cultural exploitation can lead to a

situation where communities become overly dependent on tourism
as their primary source of income. This can create vulnerabilities
and instability, as fluctuations in tourist numbers or changes in
market trends can have a significant impact on the community’s
livelihoods. Over-reliance on tourism may also limit the
diversification of the local economy, making communities more
susceptible to economic downturns.

 Tourists' Lack of Compliance - Tourists occasionally disrespect

the cultures and traditions of the nations and regions they travel to.
They might disregard unwritten laws and moral standards that the
locals highly value. Sometimes tourists perform horrifying acts while
intoxicated in public. As a result, there is some animosity among the
locals toward the visiting tourists.
 Uneven Infrastructure Development- Huge amounts of money
made from tourism allow nations to develop only the infrastructure of the
tourist destination. Unfortunately, the nations don't use the money they
make from this infrastructure to build and develop other areas that need
upkeep and development.
Tourism-related investments receive the majority of the wealth
produced by the industry, while areas that urgently need
development are consistently overlooked. Locals who don't reside in
tourist-heavy areas are ignored, which causes an imbalance in the
development of the infrastructure.

Disregard for Other Sectors- When a nation recognizes that tourism is

its main source of income, it often ignores the other diverse industries on
which it was founded. As a result, these industries become neglected by
governments, which hinders their ability to generate revenue, create jobs,
and grow. The tourism industry is the one area where the nation intends
to concentrate all of its resources, leaving the other sectors to wither and
decline.

Particularly during times of war, political unrest, or natural disasters, this

over-reliance on a single sector for a country's stability can have a
significant negative impact because it will result in the long-term closure
of that country's tourism industry due to unrest. This may eventually
cause the country to collapse because it has no other economic sectors
and hasn't built any new ones in a way that would make them resilient to
economic downturns. The only industry the country has is tourism, which
is the only one that still functions.
