UNFILTERED POWER SUPPLY

OBJECTIVES:

1. To determine the output waveform of an unfiltered half wave power supply, unfiltered full
wave bridge type power supply and unfiltered full wave center-tapped power supply.
2. To determine the ripple factor waveform of an unfiltered half wave power supply unfiltered
full wave bridge type power supply and unfiltered full wave center-tapped power supply.
3. To determine the efficiency of an unfiltered half wave power supply, unfiltered full wave
bridge type power supply and unfiltered full wave center-tapped power supply.

Unfiltered Power Supply

PROCEDURE:

1. Connect the circuit shown in Figure 1.

2. Connect an oscilloscope across the input and output of the circuit. (Use two channels)
3. Observe the waveform and record in Table 1.
4. Place an AC voltmeter and DC voltmeter across the load and record the readings in
Table 1
5. Compute the quantities of interest and record in Table 1.
6. Repeat procedure 1-5 using Figure and Figure 3.

QUESTIONS:

1. Silicon diodes are used in a two-diode full-wave rectifier circuit to supply a load with 15
volts DC and a source voltage is 220 volts, 60 Hz. Assuming ideal diodes and that the
load resistance is ohms, compute
a. The transformer secondary voltage
b. The load ripple voltage
c. The efficiency of the rectifier.
2. An unfiltered half-wave rectified develops 20 V dc. What is the value of the ripple
