REACTION PAPER: MY ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT


- MIDTERM EXAM -

Seeing the results of the assessment test, I discovered that my lifestyle is not as
environmentally friendly as I assumed. And this makes me surprised and concerned.
How is it possible for an individual like me to have such a significant impact on the
environment?

The data indicates that my personal Earth Overshoot Day is April 5th, which
suggests that 3.8 Earths would be required if everyone lived as I do. These findings
highlight the extent to which an individual's lifestyle affects the environment. Every
individual has an impact on the environment, as we all know, and this adds significantly
to the overall result (Global Footprint Network, 2023). The ecological footprint I leave
behind in my situation has an impact, with a global hectare scale of 6.2. global footprint
of my ecosystem in hectares.

This helped me realize that we produce a lot of different scales. One of the
causes is the way our society has evolved; we now use more advanced technology,
which has led to an increase in our footprint over time (Britannica, n.d.). We cannot
ignore putting aside the necessities of our daily existence, which include food,
transportation, and other needs. However, the results made me aware of what
adjustments I need to take into consideration, such as less use of electricity, eat
organic food, and less use of transportation in small distances.

To sum up, the evaluation offers a rough idea of our environmental impact. The
assessment recommendation is to visit the city’s website and challenge city leaders to
support sustainability policies. Take transit, bicycle, or walk instead of driving solo at
least once a month or once a week. By using this solution, little adjustments are made.
It highlights how crucial it is for each of us to take small actions because even a small
action can have a big impact.
