Building Technical Instruments - Thermometer, Barometer, Anemometer.
Building Technical Instruments - Thermometer, Barometer, Anemometer.
Physics
Class 7 primary school
1 lesson
Subject: Building technical instruments - thermometer, barometer, anemometer.
Lesson objectives:
General
• Developing perceptiveness and free expression of thoughts.
Indirect
After completing the classes, students will be able to:
• Use constructed devices,
• Interpret measurements.
Specific
Each student will know:
• How to build a thermometer, barometer, anemometer.
LESSON COURSE:
Introductory part:
1. Organizational activities.
2. Talk about the experiences that will be presented during the lesson.
3. Providing the topic and objectives of the lesson.
Implementation part:
4. Presentation of experiences.
Summary part:
9. Complete the self-assessment card.
Experience 1.
We scale the thermoscope. We are building a thermometer.
Items needed:
Thermoscope, pot of melting ice, pot of boiling water.
Next steps:
1. Immerse the thermoscope in the ice and water mixture.
2. Set the black lower ring at the level to which the liquid in the thermoscope tube reaches.
3. Immerse the thermoscope in a pot of boiling water and set the upper ring at the level at which
the surface of the liquid in the thermoscope is set.
4. Measure the distance between the wedding rings. Divide it into 10 equal parts (if possible, into
100 equal parts).
Conclusion:
The thermoscope will become a thermometer measuring temperature on the Celsius scale with an
accuracy of 100oC (10oC).
Experiment 2
We are building a barometer.
Items needed:
A jar, a balloon, two rubber bands, a toothpick, adhesive tape, scissors, a cardboard box with a
support.
Next steps:
1. Stretch the balloon over the jar.
2. Stick a toothpick on the membrane so that its end is in the middle of the membrane surface. It will
act as a barometer.
3. Set a scale on the cardboard, the base level should be the level of our barometer. The scale will be
from 0 to 10.
Conclusion:
The barometer measures changes in atmospheric pressure. The pointer moves upwards, the pressure
increases. The needle moves down and the pressure decreases.
Experience 3.
We are building an anemometer.
Items needed:
Bicycle computer, plastic spoons, fidget spinner, hot glue gun, cup, sand, tape, fan or hair dryer, stick.
Next steps:
1. Make a canopy. Glue the spoons to the fidget spinner.
2. Also glue the remaining part of the spoon to the spinner.
3. Attach the entire spinner to the stick with tape.
4. Place the anemometer in a cup.
5. Attach the bike computer to the anemometer. Glue the main part to the stick and the other part to the
piece of spoon.
Conclusion:
The anemometer will become an instrument that measures wind speed.
Self-assessment card:
Complete the sheet. Assess the level of your knowledge and skills by marking the appropriate boxes
on the sheet with an X, where: A - means "yes", B - means "probably yes", C - means "rather no", D -
means "no". Below the table there are fields where you can comment on your strengths and
weaknesses - complete them.
