6. The London Eye (also known as the Millennium wheel) is the largest Ferris wheel in the
world with a diameter of 135m and it completes one revolution every 30 minutes. The
height of the seat from the ground at the bottom of the ride is 1 metre.
a) Find an equation for the height of a seat on the Ferris wheel at any time t
b) Identify any assumptions that you have made and state the effects that these
assumptions would have on your model
c) Determine the rate of change of the height at any time t minutes. Sketch the graph of
the rate of change vs. time
d) What time is the greatest rate of change of height occurring? Explain what this means in
terms of a person’s ride on the Ferris wheel.
