Speaking Module Course Outline


Duration: 3 Months
Total Classes: 24
Frequency: 2 Classes per Week
Course Overview
This course is designed to equip students with the necessary skills to excel in the IELTS Speaking
test. Through intensive practice and focused training, students will develop fluency, coherence,
vocabulary, and grammar required to achieve their target band score.

Course Objectives
• Develop fluency and coherence in spoken English
• Expand vocabulary and grammatical range
• Improve pronunciation and intonation
• Build confidence in speaking English
• Master the structure and requirements of the IELTS Speaking test

Week 1: Introduction to the IELTS Speaking Test

• Class 1:
o Overview of the IELTS Speaking Module.
o Understanding the format, scoring, and timing.
o Introduction to the three parts of the test (Introduction & Interview, Long Turn,
Two-way Discussion).
o Diagnostic Speaking Test to assess students' current level.
• Class 2:
o Review of Diagnostic Test Results.
o Tips for overcoming speaking anxiety.
o Basic Speaking Skills: Fluency and Coherence.
o Homework: Prepare a self-introduction.

Week 2: Part 1 - Introduction & Interview

• Class 3:
o Detailed understanding of Part 1 (Introduction & Interview).
o Common topics and question types.
o Techniques to answer confidently and clearly.
o Practice Session: Mock Part 1 interviews in pairs.
• Class 4:
o Expanding vocabulary for Part 1.
o Building answers with details and examples.
o Role-play exercises focusing on natural conversation.
o Homework: Record a Part 1 interview response and submit for feedback.

Week 3: Developing Fluency and Pronunciation

• Class 5:
o Techniques for improving fluency (linking words, using fillers appropriately).
o Pronunciation basics: stress, intonation, and rhythm.
o Practice: Focused pronunciation drills with common IELTS topics.
• Class 6:
o Individual Pronunciation Feedback.
o Introduction to phonetics and phonology for IELTS.
o Role-play exercises focusing on fluency and natural flow.
o Homework: Prepare answers for five common Part 1 questions.

Week 4: Part 2 - The Long Turn

o Practice Session: Delivering a Long Turn based on a provided cue card.
• Class 8:

Why, How).
o Peer feedback and discussion on delivered Long Turns.
o Homework: Prepare a Long Turn on a new topic and record it.

Week 5: Vocabulary Building and Paraphrasing

o Strategies for expanding vocabulary.
o Paraphrasing techniques to avoid repetition.
o The importance of using a wide range of vocabulary in Speaking.
o Vocabulary-building exercises focused on common IELTS themes.
• Class 10:
