WORD PROCESSING
It refers to creation, editing,
the formatting, and manipulation of textual content using a computer or any electronic device. The software for this purpose is called a word processor. ADVANTAGES OF WORD PROCESSING You can already see the written words before printing them on paper. You can make as may revisions and corrections. You can easily apply formatting and colors. It is possible to make as many copies of a document as you want. FUNCTION KEYS (F1 – F12) The function keys are used to perform specific tasks. They are labeled as F1, F2, F3, and so on, up to F12. The functionality of these keys depend on the software currently in use. MAIN KEYBOARD The main keypad consist of the alphanumeric (typing keys) which includes the same letter, number, punctuation, and symbol keys found on a traditional typewriter. We can also locate the modifier keys in the main keypad. These are the Shift Key, the Control (Ctrl) Key, and the Alt Key. These keys changes the output of a specific key. NAVIGATION KEYS/CURSOR MOVEMENT KEYS These keys are used for moving around in documents or webpages and editing text. They include the arrow keys, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Delete, and Insert. INDICATOR LIGHTS The three indicator LEDs on the keyboard. These lights show whether or not the num lock, caps lock, or scroll lock are enable or disabled NUMERICAL KEYPAD It is a group of keys located on the right side of the keyboard. It looks like a calculator, because it has both number and symbols for mathematical equations. MS OFFICE PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS Microsoft Word – word processing program Microsoft Excel – spreadsheet program Microsoft PowerPoint – presentation program Microsoft Access – database management Microsoft Outlook – e-mail program Microsoft Publisher – desktop publishing Microsoft OneNote – organizing program GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE It provides a way for the user to interact with and give commands to the computer by clicking displayed elements on the screen, like menus, tabs, and icons. The computer will respond to or perform a particular task based on which element is clicked by the user. QUICK ACCESS TOOLBAR It consists of the most frequently used commands. Any command in the application can be added to this toolbar. TITLE BAR This indicates the title of the document you are working on. RIBBON DISPLAY OPTIONS This is where you can select options on how you would want your ribbon to look like. You can select to auto-hide your ribbon, show the tabs, or show tabs and commands. MINIMIZE, MAXIMIZE, AND CLOSE BUTTONS These three buttons allow you to maneuver your document. You can either minimize it, maximize it, or close it. RIBBON This is the panel of tabs below the title bar. Each tab reveals groupings of commands that are related to each other. RULERS (HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL RULERS) It allows the user to make sure that the text and other elements in the document are well-positioned. SCROLL BAR (SCROLL BUTTON) This is used to move the screen display horizontally or vertically. It comes with a scroll arrow and a scroll box. STATUS BAR Located at the bottom of your screen, the status bar includes basic information, such as the page number of the open document, the language used in the document, and its overall word count. ZOOM SLIDER The zoom slider appears in the lower-right corner of the application window. You can click and drag the slider left, towards the minus symbol (-), to shrink the magnification level. The magnification level is the percentage which appears to the right of the zoom slider. DOCUMENT AREA It is the area where the user types the text in a Word document.
