Initial camera positioning, focus, zoom and exposure can be evaluated by running the ViewUtility
project on the Projects tab. Note that other running projects must be stopped prior to starting the
ViewUtility project.
When using GM template projects, the camera zoom, focus, exposure and inspection configuration
are typically done from the Operator View web pages. Detailed instructions for using each GM
template project can be found on the Vision Sharepoint site.
Use Windows Explorer to copy and paste two folders (with subfolders) to or from a smart camera.
Input the IP address in Windows Explorer and input the user name and password as shown in
Figure 12.

Enter mtxuser
Enter Matrox
Note: The default password is shown. The plant shall maintain the current login password for each
camera.
Browse to the projects folder as shown in Figure 13. Drag and drop to copy the project to the
projects folder. Browse to the Web folder and drag and drop to copy the project to the web folder.
When backing up the project both folders must be copied.
Note: When overwriting an existing project, the project on the camera must not be running.
Stop the existing program by opening the camera’s portal view (IP address in Internet Explorer),
and clicking the Stop button to the right of the running project. The Stop button is only available if a
project is running on the camera.

After copying the folders to the camera, reboot the camera and then follow the steps in Section 3
to verify or set the project as the default project to load at start up.
Matrox GTR smart cameras have 32GB of memory. The memory is split into several functions and
approximately 10GB is available for user image and data storage. As a default, typical projects will
store 1500 image and data sets. Each set includes a lossless image (.PNG), a compressed image
with inspection results (.JPG) and a text file with camera settings and results (.txt).

Figure 14: Copying images from the camera using Windows Explorer
To retrieve data from the camera browse to the SavedTextFiles folder as shown in Figure 15. Copy
and paste or drag and drop text files to your PC as required.
Figure 15: Copying txt data files from the camera using Windows Explorer
Note: The name of the PNG, JPG and TXT are the same so they can be cross referenced.
Note that replacing the project on the camera may require several minutes of downtime on
the production camera.
Acquire the latest camera project. The latest copy can be acquired from Autosave/MASS or directly
from the camera using the instructions in Section 4.
Deploy or copy the project to a non-production camera or PC. The project can be deployed locally
to a GM PC after setting up the server license (See the Vision Share Point site for information on
how to setup a connection to the GM license server). The project can also be copied or deployed to
a smart camera. A non-production camera should be used, typically a training cell camera, to
prevent impacting production. Section 4 contains instructions to load the project folders to a smart
camera.
Copy the PNG images to the OfflineImages folder on the camera. The PNG images for all
inspections are stored in the same folders. Therefore, the user must be aware that not all images
apply to every recipe. Note that the image names contain the recipe ID and can be sorted
accordingly. The image file names are Camera Name-Recipe ID-PVI-Pass or Fail-Time Stamp. In
many cases the differences in the images are obvious but in some cases the images may be very
similar and the user should verify the recipe ID.
Jan 2019 12
Use the Image Source pull down to select Saved Images and edit the settings as required on the
recipe settings page. Click on the Recipe Settings button to switch to the Recipe Settings page.
Click on the green Online button to switch to Offline. Select the appropriate Recipe ID using the
pull down selection. Select Saved Images from the Image Source pull down and use the Manual
Trigger button to cycle through the images. The current image file name is shown in the text box
below the Image Source pull down as shown in Figure 16.

Note: Deploying a program to the camera may take several minutes and the camera is off
line during this process.
The Project Change Validator (PCV) requires a Validation Server. A GTR smart camera or a Matrox
GPm (vision controller with special software load for validation) can be used as Validation Servers.
The Validation Server shall be dedicated to validation and not running a production inspection.
When using a GTR as a Validation Server, set the Validation Server GTR to run no project at start
up as shown in Section 3.
Utilizing a GTR per network area (zone switch) is the preferred option for a Validation Server.
Having a Validation Server per zone switch prevents the data from travelling across the plant
network and limits the load on the Validation Server. The Validation Server can handle a large
number of cameras and automatically queues the Validation requests from multiple cameras in the
order they were received. Each validation is completed and the results are sent back to the
requesting camera prior to starting the next validation. The time required for each validation
depends on the complexity of the project, number of library images and network speed/traffic. The
minimum time for a validation is approximately 1 minute and typical simple applications will take less
than 5 minutes.
Validation of a project can be done manually from the camera web page and cell HMI or
automatically from the PLC. When validation is active, each smart camera notifies the PLC when a
parameter change is made or when a new project is loaded on the camera. The PLC notifies the
user that Validation is required via the HMI camera screen and an alarm. The logic can be
conditioned to run Validation whenever a change is detected. Once complete, the validation report
is available on the HMI or from any PC on the network via web page.
1. On a PC on the camera network, open a web browser with HTML5 support (not a Siemens
HMI) and type the camera IP address in address bar

Evaluate the stored inspections and select inspections to include in the Validation Set. App Notes
for specific applications may contain more details on the type of images and results that should be
included in the Validation Set. In general, inspections that are borderline pass/fail or are typical
failure modes should be included in the Validation Set.
Return to the Project Change Validator web page after several inspections have been recorded via
manual trigger or automatic running. Click on the refresh button to show the inspections. Hover
over the Outputs for each inspection to see the pass/fail results. Click on the thumbnail image to
see a larger image with or without the annotations. Close the image view with the X button in the
upper right corner. After reviewing the inspection results and images click the check box next to
each inspection and then click on Add to Validation Set to add inspections to the Validation Set.
Note that inspections may also be deleted from the Validation Set by clicking on the check box and
clicking the Delete button. Click on the Recording Enabled button to disable recording. When
complete, click on Return to Projects List.
