Unit - I

Projections of solids and Auxiliary projections of solid of prism, pyramid, cube,


cylinder, Tetrahedron, Octahedron, and cone with axis inclined to one plane
and parallel to other – Axis inclined to both the planes

Unit – II

Sections of solids of tetrahedron, cube, prism, Pyramids and cone, Section


planes perpendicular to HP and inclined to VP, Section planes perpendicular

ASSIGNMENT – I
UNIT-I PROJECTIONS OF SOLIDS -I
1. A cube of 40mm side is resting with a face on H.P with one of its
vertical face inclined at 300 to V.P. Draw the projections of the
cube.

2. A Triangular pyramid of base 30mm side and axis 50mm long is


resting on H.P on its base, with an edge of the base perpendicular
to V.P. Draw the projections of the pyramid.

3. A pentagonal pyramid of base 25mm side and axis 60mm is


resting on an edge of the base. Draw the projections of the
pyramid when its axis is perpendicular to V.P and base is 15mm in
front of V.P.

4. A square prism base of side 35mm and axis 50mm long lies with
one of its longer edges on HP such that its axis is parallel to VP.
Also one of its rectangular faces containing that longer edge is
inclined at 300 to HP. Draw its projections.

5. A hexagonal pyramid side of base 25 and height 50 rests with its


base on HP such that one of the edges of the base is inclined at
200 to VP. Draw the top and front views of the pyramid.

6. A hexagonal prism with an edge of the base 20mm and axis 50mm
long has one of its side surfaces longer edge on the ground. Draw
the projections of the prism.

7. A square pyramid, side of base 30mm and height 45mm, is resting


on H.P on one of the edges of the base with axis parallel to H.P
and V.P both. Draw the projections of the pyramid.

8. Draw the projections of two equal spheres of 20 radii, resting on


H.P and in contact with each other so that the line joining their
centers is inclined at (i) 300 to V.P. and (ii) 450 to H.P.

9. A tetrahedron of 40 long edges is resting on H.P on one of the


faces, with an edge of that face parallel to V.P. Draw the
projections of the solid.

10. An octahedron of side 40, is resting with one of its corners on


H.P. The axis passing through this corner is vertical and one of its
horizontal edges is parallel to and 15 in front of V.P. Draw the
projections of the solid.

PROJECTIONS OF SOLIDS -II
1. A pentagonal prism side 25 and axis 50 rests with one of its
shorter edge on HP, such that the base containing that edge
makes an angle of 300 to HP and its axis is parallel to VP. Draw its
projections. Follow the change of position method.

2. A hexagonal pyramid side of base 25 and axis 50 long rests with


one of the edges of its base on HP and its axis is inclined at 30 0 to
HP and parallel to VP. Draw its projections. Follow the change of
reference line(auxiliary plane) method.

3. A square prism side of base 40mm and axis 60 long rests with one
of its base corners on HP. Its base makes an angle of 45 0 to HP
and its axis is parallel to VP. Draw its projections. Follow the
change of position method.

4. A pentagonal pyramid side of base 25mm and axis 55mm long lies
with one of its slant edges on HP such that its axis is parallel to
VP. Draw its projections. Follow the auxiliary plane method.

5. A hexagonal prism side of base 25 and axis 60 long lies with one
of its rectangular faces on HP such that the axis is inclined at 45 0
to VP. Draw its projections. Follow the auxiliary plane method

6. Draw the projections of a cylinder base 30mm diameter and axis


40mm long, rests with a point of its base circle on HP such that the
axis is making an angle of 300 with HP and its top view parallel to
VP. Follow the change of position method.

7. A regular pentagonal prism, side of base 40 and length 80 lies with


one of its rectangular faces on the ground and axis inclined at 40 0

long, lying on the ground with its axis inclined at 30 0 to the V.P and

9. A cone, diameter of base 55mm and height 60mm, is resting on


H.P on one of its generators with axis parallel to V.P. Draw the
projections of cone. Follow the auxiliary plane method

10. Draw the projections of a pentagonal pyramid, side of base


45 and altitude 65, when: (a) one of its triangular faces is
perpendicular to the H.P. (b) One of its sloping edges is vertical.
Follow the change of position method.

11. Draw the projections of cylinder of diameter 60 and 90 long


lying on VP on one of its generators with its axis inclined at 60 0 to
HP.

12. A square pyramid of side of base 30mm and axis 50mm


long, is freely suspended from a corner of its base. Draw the
projections. Follow the auxiliary plane method.

PROJECTIONS OF SOLIDS - III

1. A square prism side of 30mm and axis 50mm long has its axis
inclined at 600 to HP. It has an edge of its base on the HP and
inclined at 450 to VP. Draw its projections. Follow the change of
position method.

2. Draw the projections of a hexagonal prism side of base 30mm and


axis 60mm long resting with one of the edges of the base on HP.
Its axis is inclined at 300 to the HP and the top view of the axis at
450 to VP. Follow the change of position method.

3. A square pyramid of 25mm edge of the base and axis 70mm long
has its axis parallel to the V.P and inclined at 600 to the H.P. Draw
its projections if one of its base edges is inclined at 30 0 to the V.P

and the apex is on the H.P and 40mm away from the V.P. Follow
the auxiliary plane method

4. A hexagonal pyramid, side of base 25 long and height 75 has one


of its triangular faces perpendicular to the H.P and inclined at 300
to the V.P. The base side of this triangular face is in the H.P. Draw
the projections of the solid. Follow the auxiliary plane method

5. A tetrahedron of 75 edge has one edge on the ground and inclined


at 450 to the V.P, while a face containing that edge is vertical.
Draw its projections. Follow the auxiliary plane method

6. A square pyramid, base 40 side and axis 90 long has a triangular


face on the ground and the vertical plane containing the axis
makes an angle of 450 with the V.P. Draw its projections. Follow
the auxiliary plane method

7. Draw the top view and front view of cone, of base diameter 50 and
altitude 70, laying on one of its generators on the H.P, when: (a)
the top view of the axis makes an angle 30 0 with the XY (b) the
axis makes an angle 300 with the V.P. Follow the auxiliary plane
method

8. A pentagonal pyramid has an edge of the base in the V.P and


inclined at 300 to the H.P, while the triangular face containing that
edge makes an angle 450 with the V.P. Length of the side of the
base being 30 and length of the axis 75. Draw the projections of
the solid.

9. A cylinder of dia 60 and axis 70 is having its axis inclined at 45 0 to


VP and 300 to HP. Draw the projections.

10. A cone of base 50 and axis 80 has one its generators on VP


and inclined at 300 to HP. Draw the projections.

11. One of the body diagonals of a cube of 50 edge is parallel to


HP and inclined at 450 to VP. Draw the projections of the cube
when it is resting on one of its corners on H.P.

12. A thin lamp shade is in the form of a cone, the ends of which
are 80 and 160 diameter and the vertical height is 150. It rests on

HP on a point of its longer end with the axis inclined at 40 0 to HP


and 300 to VP. The smaller end of the shade is nearer to VP. Draw
the projections of the shade. Follow the auxiliary plane method.

13. An octahedron of 30 edge, lies with one of its faces on H.P


and an edge of that face inclined at 45 0 to V.P. Draw its
projections. Follow the change of position method.

UNIT –II SECTIONS OF SOLIDS - I
1. A Cone of base 40 diameter and axis 60 long is lying on one of its
generators on H.P with the axis parallel to V.P. A horizontal
section plane bisects the axis of the solid. Draw the projections.

2. A cone of base 60 diameter and 75 height is resting on its base on


H.P. The V.T of the section plane is parallel to the extreme
generator and 10 away from it. Draw the projections and determine
the true shape of the section.

3. A cone of base 65 diameter and axis 75 long, rests on H.P. on a


point on the circumference of the base. The axis of the cone
makes 60o with H.P. It is cut by a section plane, inclined at 30 o to
V.P. and passing through the mid – point of the axis. Draw the
sectional front view and determine the true shape of the section.

4. A pentagonal pyramid of side of base 25 and 50 height, rests on a


triangular face on H.P. with its axis parallel to V.P. It is cut by a
horizontal section plane, bisecting the axis .Draw the projections of
the retained solid.

5. A square pyramid of base 40 side and axis 70 long, rests with its
base on H.P. with all the edges of the base equally inclined to V.P.
It is cut by a section plane inclined at 60o to H.P. and passing
through a point on the axis at 30 from the apex. Draw the three
views of the cut solid.

6. A hexagonal pyramid, with edge of base 40 and axis 85 long, is


lying on H.P. on one of its triangular faces, with the axis parallel to
V.P. A vertical section plane, the H.T of which makes an angle of

45o with the reference line, passes through the centre of the base
and cuts the pyramid the apex being retained. Draw the top view,
sectional front view and true shape of the section.

7. A triangular prism of base 40 side and axis 75 long, is lying on


H.P. On one of its rectangular faces, with its axis inclined at 30 o to
V.P. It is cut by a horizontal section plane, at a distance of 20
above H.P. Draw its front and sectional top views.

8. A square prism with edge of base 45 and axis 90 long, has its axis
parallel to both H.P. and V.P the lateral surfaces are equally
inclined to H.P. It is cut by a vertical section plane inclined at 60o to
V.P. and passing through the axis at 65 from one end. Draw the
projections, and determine the true shape of the section.

9. A Pentagonal prism of side of base 30 and axis 60 long, rests with


one of its rectangular faces on H.P. with its axis inclined at 30 o to
V.P. A section plane parallel to V.P cuts the solid into two halves.
Draw the Projections of the solid.

UNIT –II SECTIONS OF SOLIDS - II
1. A tetrahedron of side 60, is resting on H.P. on one of its faces, with
an edge of it parallel to V.P. It is cut by a section plane
perpendicular to both H.P. and V.P and 15 away from the axis of
the solid. Draw the sectional side view.

2. A cone of base 40 diameter and axis 50 long, is resting on its base


on H.P. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to both H.P and
V.P and 5mm away from the axis. Draw the sectional side view of
the cut solid.

3. A cylinder of base 50 diameter and 60 long, has its axis parallel to


both H.P. and V.P. It is cut by a vertical section plane, inclined at
30o to V.P such that the axis is cut at a point 25 from one end.
Draw the projections and determine the true shape of the section.

4. A cylinder base 40 mm diameter and axis 58 mm long, rests with a


point of its base circle on H.P. Its axis is inclined at 45 o to H.P. and
parallel to V.P. A section plane perpendicular to both the H.P. and

the V.P. Bisects the axis of the cylinder . Draw its front, top and
sectional side views.

5. A square prism of base 50 side and 100 height stands with its
base on the ground such that all the rectangular faces are equally
inclined to the V.P. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to the
V.P such that the true shape of the section is a rhombus of longer
diagonal 90. Find the inclination of the section plane with the H.P
and draw the front view, sectional top view and true shape of the
section.

6. A cone, diameter of base 60 and axis 70 long is resting on its base


on the ground. It is cut by a section plane such that its true shape
is an isosceles triangle of base 40. Draw the sectional top view
and true shape of the section.

7. A square pyramid of 50 long edges of base and 70 height is


resting on its base with one of the edges of the base perpendicular
to V.P. It is cut by an inclined section plane in such a way that the
true shape of the section is a trapezium whose parallel sides
measure 40 and 20. Draw the front view, sectional top view and
true shape of the section.

8. A cube of 60 edge, stands vertically on the H.P such that its


vertical faces are equally inclined to the V.P. A section plane
perpendicular to V.P and inclined to the H.P cuts the solid in such
a way that the true shape of the section is an equilateral triangle of
60 side. Determine the inclination of the section plane with the
H.P.

9. A tetrahedron of 65 long edges is lying on one of its faces, with an


edge perpendicular to V.P. It is cut by a section plane, which is
perpendicular to V.P. such that, the true shape of the section is
and isosceles triangle of base 45 and altitude 35. Find the
inclination of the section plane with H.P. and draw the projections
of the solid.

ASSIGNMENT – 6
UNIT –III DEVELOPMENT OF SURFACES
1. A square prism of side of base 40mm and axis 80mm long, is
resting on its base on H.P such that, a rectangular face of it is
parallel to V.P. Draw the development of the prism.
2. A cube of 50mm edge, is resting on face on H.P such that, a
vertical face is inclined at 300 to V.P. It is cut by a section plane
perpendicular to V.P and inclined to H.P at 30 0 and passing
through a point at 12mm from the top end of the axis. Develop the
lateral surface of the lower portion of the cube.

3. A cylinder of diameter of base 40mm and axis 55mm long, is


resting on its base on H.P. It is cut by a section plane,
perpendicular to V.P and inclined at 450 to H.P. The section plane
is passing through the top end of an extreme generator of the
cylinder. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the cut
cylinder.

4. A pentagonal pyramid of side of base 30mm and axis 60mm long,


is resting on its base on H.P with an edge of the base parallel to
V.P. Draw the development of the lateral surface of the pyramid.

5. A square pyramid, with side of base 30mm and axis 50mm long is
resting on its base on H.P with an edge of the base parallel to V.P.
It is cut by a section plane, perpendicular to V.P and inclined at 45 0
to H.P. The section plane is passing through the mid-point of the
axis. Draw the development of the surface of the cut pyramid.

6. A cone of base 50mm diameter and axis 60mm long, is resting on


its base on H.P. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to V.P
and parallel to extreme generator and passing through a point on
the axis at a distance of 20mm from the apex. Draw the
development of the retained solid.

7. A Pentagonal prism 20 side of base and 45 height stands vertically


on its base with two of its rectangular faces equally inclined to the
V.P. The V.T of the cutting plane inclined at 45 o to the axis of the
prism passes through the left corner of the top face of the prism.
Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface of the
truncated prism.

8. A pentagonal pyramid, side of base 30mm and height 52mm,


stands with its base on H.P. and an edge of the base is parallel to
V.P. It is cut by a plane perpendicular to V.P. inclined at 40 o to
H.P. and passing through a point on the axis, 32 mm above the
base. Draw the sectional top view and develop the lateral surface
of the truncated pyramid.

9. Draw the development of the frustum of a hexagonal pyramid of


side of base 35 at the bottom and 15 at the top, the height of the
frustum being 50.

ASSIGNMENT – 7
UNIT –III DEVELOPMENT OF SURFACES
1. A hexagonal pyramid of side of base 30 and length of axis 80 rests
on the H.P on its base. An ant initially situated at the left extreme
corner of the base moves on the surface of the pyramid and
reaches the mid-point of the right extreme edge (slant edge). Find
the shortest path of travel of the ant. Shown the path in front
view and top view.

2. A hexagonal pyramid of base 40 side and height 75, stands with


its base on the ground such that two of the base edges are parallel
to V.P. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to V.P and
inclined at 30o to H.P and bisects its axis .Draw the development
of the surface of the cut solid.

3. Draw the development of the complete surface of a G.I. cylindrical


drum with lid. Diameter is 30 cm and the height is 1.6 times the
diameter. Take a suitable scale.

4. Draw the development of a cylinder of 50 diameter and 75 height,


containing a square hole of 25 side. The sides of the hole are
equally inclined to the base and the axis of the hole bisects the
axis of the cylinder.

5. Develop the development of a right circular cylinder of diameter 50


and 60 height, having a circular hole of 30 , drilled centrally
through it such that axes of the hole and cylinder are mutually
perpendicular to each other.

6. A lamp shade is formed by cutting a cone of base 144mm


diameter and 174mm height by a horizontal plane at a distance of
72 mm from the apex and another plane inclined at 30o to H.P and
passing through one extremity of the base. Draw the development
of the shade

7. A right circular cone of 75 diameter and 100 length of axis rests on


ground on its base. A Point P initially situated at the extreme right
end of the base moves around the surface of Cone and finally
comes back to the starting point. Find the length of the shortest
path, the Point P will take in covering the distance along the
surface of the cone. Also shown the path, In front view and top
view.

8. In a semi-circular plate of 120 diameter, a largest circular hole is


made. The plate is folded to form a cone. Draw the two views of
the cone.

UNIT –IV INTERPENETRATION OF SOLIDS
1. A vertical square prism of base 50 side, is penetrated by a
horizontal square prism of base 40 side such that, the axes
intersect. The axis of the horizontal prism is parallel to V.P and the
faces of both the prisms are equally inclined to V.P. Draw the
projections of the two prisms, showing the lines of intersection.

2. A vertical square prism of base 50 side, is penetrated by a


horizontal square prism of base 35 side such that, the axes are
6mm apart. The axis of the horizontal prism is parallel to V.P and
the faces of both the prisms are equally inclined to V.P. Draw the
projections of the two prisms, showing the lines of intersection.

3. A vertical cylinder of 60 diameter, is penetrated by another cylinder


of 45 diameter. The axes of the two cylinders are intersecting at
right angle. Draw the projections of the two cylinders, showing the
lines (curves) of intersection.

4. A vertical cylinder of 80 diameter, is penetrated by another cylinder


of 50 diameter. The axis of the penetrating cylinder is parallel to
both H.P and V.P and is 10mm away from that of the vertical

cylinder. Draw the projections, showing the lines (curves) of


intersection.

5. A vertical cylinder of 70 diameter, is penetrated by a horizontal


cylinder of the same size. The axis of the penetrating cylinder is 12
away from the axis of the vertical cylinder. Draw the projections of
the cylinders, showing the lines (curves) of intersection.

6. A vertical cylinder of 60mm diameter, has a square hole of 30mm


side, cut through it. The axis of the hole is horizontal and 8mm
away from the axis of the cylinder. The edges of the square hole
are equally inclined to H.P. draw the projections of the cylinder.

UNIT –IV INTERPENETRATION OF SOLIDS
1. A hexagonal prism with side of base 40, is resting on one of its
bases on H.P, with a face parallel to V.P. The prism is penetrated
by a square prism of side of base 40. The axis of the square prism
is parallel to V.P and inclined at 300 to H.P, with its faces equally
inclined to H.P. Draw the projections, showing the lines of
intersection, when the axes of both the solids are intersecting.

2. A vertical cylinder of 80 diameter, is penetrated by another cylinder


of 50 diameter. The axis of the penetrating cylinder is inclined at
300 with H.P and parallel to V.P. Draw the projections of cylinders
showing the lines (curves) of intersection, when the axes of two
cylinders, intersect each other.

3. A vertical cone, diameter of base 75mm and axis 100mm long, is


completely penetrated by a cylinder of 45mm diameter. The axis of
the cylinder is parallel to the H.P and the V.P and intersects the
axis of the cone at a point 28mm above the base. Draw the
projections of the solids showing curves of intersection.

4. A vertical cone, base 80mm diameter and axis 110mm long is


penetrated by a horizontal cylinder, 45mm diameter. The axis of
the cylinder is 25mm above the base of the cone, is parallel to the
V.P and is 10mm away from the axis of the cone. Draw the
projections of the solids showing curves of intersection.

5. A vertical cylinder of 75mm diameter is penetrated by a cone, base


75mm diameter and axis 110mm long, the two axes bisecting each
other at right angles. Draw the front view showing lines (curves) of
intersections.

UNIT – V ISOMETRIC PROJECTIONS OF SOLIDS
1. Draw the isometric projection of a square prism, with side of base
40 and length of the axis 70, when its axis is (i) vertical and (ii)
horizontal.

2. Draw the isometric projection of a hexagonal prism, with side of


base 25 and axis 60 long. The prism is resting on one of its base
on H.P, with an edge of the base parallel to V.P. Use the box
method.

3. Draw the isometric view of a pentagonal pyramid, with side of base


25 and axis 60 long. The pyramid is resting on its base on H.P,
with an edge of the base (away from the observer) parallel to V.P.
Use the off-set method.

4. A hexagonal pyramid with side of base 30 and axis 120 long, is


resting on its base on H.P. with an edge of the base is parallel to
V.P. A horizontal section plane passes through a point on the axis,
at a distance of 60 from the base. Draw the isometric view of the
frustum of the pyramid.

5. Make the isometric drawing of a cylinder of base diameter 25 and


axis 40 long, when its axis is (i) vertical and (ii) horizontal.

6. Draw the isometric projection of a cone of base diameter 40 and


axis 60 long, when its axis is (i) vertical and (ii) horizontal. Use the
off-set method.

UNIT – V ISOMETRIC PROJECTIONS OF SOLIDS


1. Draw the isometric projection of a sphere of diameter 50 resting
centrally on the top of a square prism of side of base 60 and axis
20.

2. A square slab of 60x60x25, has a hexagonal hole through it. The


side of the hexagon is 25 and one side of it is parallel to a face of
the slab. Draw its isometric view.

3. A hemi-sphere is resting on the top of a hexagonal prism of 35mm


side and axis 100mm long. Draw the isometric drawing of the set-
up when the hemi- sphere is touching all the edges of the top
base.

4. A square pyramid with base edge 55 and height 80 is resting on a


cube of side 65. The axes of the solids coincide along a line. The
two sides of the base of the pyramid are parallel to the edges of
the cube. Draw the isometric view of the combination of the solids.
5. A hexagonal prism with side of base 25 and axis 50 long, rests
centrally on one of its rectangular faces, on a cylindrical block of
75 diameter and 25 thick. The cylindrical block rests on its base on
H.P and the axis of the prism is perpendicular to V.P. Draw the
isometric view of the combination of the two solids.

6. A frustum of a square pyramid having base 50mm square, top


surface 35mm square and axis 40mm rests on its base on H.P. A
hemi-sphere of 60mm diameter is centrally placed over the top
surface of the pyramid and the hemi-sphere rests on a point on the
surface of the pyramid. Draw the isometric drawing of the
combination of the solids.
